I bought my first living quarters trailer last June. It's a smaller one, a 2016 Sundowner Sante Fe with a 6 ft short wall, and a box length of 18 ft so it's not a big trailer at all. It's hard to jack up so I'm looking at putting either an electric or hydraulic jack on it, What do I need to be looking at in the way of a jack? Thanks in advance for advice.

My living quarters trailer has dual 2 speed manual crank jacks that would just about do me in everytime I used the trailer. I installed the magnum electric lift on my jack set up, it took about 30 minutes to install and has work well. No complaints from me on being slow and was cost effective for me.

A possibility is you have a two speed jack. I met a person that was complaining about the jack. She didn't know the jack was a two speed and it was set to the high gear. Once I showed her how to switch, she was much happier with the trailer.

Like Hosspuller pointed out...make sure you don't already have a two speed jacking system...but if you have the money to spend and are basically lazy...

It's not that I'm lazy at all. It's good exercise for me. Except, with two disks in my back rubbing together, it's really painful with this trailer. I'm a 60 yr old woman, and trying to get ready for retirement. Bought the new trailer, bought a new truck this year, want to be able to use them comfortably.

I have a hydralic jack and i praise the lord every time i use it!!! I have a friend who has an electric and feel sorry for her every time shes uses hers!!!!!

I have the equalizer system on both the gooseneck trailers and it's really been a life saver. I've had back surgery and for the money it's the best part of both the trailers. Just remember to pull the key out when you are done...ask me how I know. Anyone (my aging parents, husband or nine year old child) at any time can hook up the trailers and it could mean the difference in life or death in an emergency. It's fast and super simple to operate.

I started with a two speed manual jack on my first 4 horse. I upgraded to an electric (equalizer, single post), and loved it. I had to replace the 30 amp fuse at a horse show, and had the rotary switch fail one time as well. Cranking the trailer and the motor was much worse than just cranking the trailer.
When I replaced my old 4 horse with a new one, I made sure to have a hydraulic system on it. Much more reliable, and if it fails, the trailer can still be lowered and raised with a small handle that actuates the pump. Much easier than the hand crank.
Even if the trailer came with an electric system, I would replace it with a hydraulic system before I hauled to a horse show.
