I am considering a trailer, 3H GN that is a weekender- I want to be able to go off the grid- no hookups for up to a week-any ideas on how to do that- ie solar, generator or ??

You could do both. Solar is a little more complicated than just hooking up a generator. Another thing to consider is propane, because you can run a hot water heater and refrigerator that way.
I have a Honda 3000 generator and have no problems doing long weekends off the grid using that plus propane for my fridge.

Ditto the propane for frig & water heater. I use solar charger to keep 2 marine batteies charged for lights, 12v accessories, and Power Inverter for low watt electical devices like TV/DVD, phone/ipad chargers ect.

Yes you can do that as long as you plan ahead. You want everything possible in your trailer to be 12v powered - lights, fans, water pump, phone chargers, a true AC/DC or AC/LP refrigerator. The only real non-DC you are stuck with are the air conditioner and microwave. You can get hot water from LP as well. You're going to be cooking outside son no problem there. We have a 165watt solar panel and controller and 2 series 24 deep cycle batteries. You can always add additional of each if needed in the future. I have lived for as long as 7 weeks in ours, only running the generators (2-Honda 2000i's) when the AC or uwave were needed. When they are running they would automatically take over the refrigerator and water heater as well. You can live very comfortably mainly using 12v on solar.
