I am looking into purchasing a new Lakota trailer, but I am concerned about the gooseneck hitch. Has there been any known issues with the hitch being to flimsy or folding on impact? The plate the hitch is mounted to doesn't extend as far back as the elites, exiss or twisters? The material used appears to not be as heavy as hitches I have seen on other trailers. I ask, because a friend hit a cow last year and his hitch did bend slightly, but his trailer is not a lakota.

You get what you pay for! I haven't inspected a Lakota up close because when I purchased in Fall of 2014 it did not make my top 3 list due to noted issues listed on this site, use the search function. I have an Elite and Featherlite and they seem to have similar components installed as the gooseneck coupler. If you aren't comfortable don't spend your money on it. Some brands will save money where they shouldn't. Have you looked at a higher quality used trailer that fits inside your budget? This should give you the better built trailer with a structure you can be confident putting behind your truck.

I had a 2006 Lakota and it was a lemon. Had a multitude of things go wrong... long story but the company was very helpful and tried fixing everything, but overall the trailer was a piece of crap. I never had problems w/ the hitch but I saw an article where somone pulling a Lakota was t boned and the entire piece (tougue?) from the ball to the bottom of the gooseneck folded sideways.

thank you! I have been considering a sundowner, elite and twister. I currently have an exiss but the newer exiss are not built as well as they used to be. I loved the looks of the Lakotas and upon inspection the hitch was the only thing we questioned. I friend had heard reports of low quality hitches, so I wanted to look into and get additional insight.

The Lakota hitches may be junk, I dont know, The ones I have seen seemed fine. ?But judging the integrity in a collision is not fair. The world trade center collapsed because 2 air placnes flew into it.

Looked at the hitch on a 2016 Lakota Big Horn 8414 LQ trailer, 21000# GVWR, alot stronger built than my 4STAR six horse head to head with pretty much the same weight rating.... More steel used in the Lakota hitch, steel extends all the way to the bulkhead wall. Seen a Twister 4 horse LQ with genset on roof, haypod, all the buttons and whistles, big heavy trailer that was rear ended by a Nissan pickup and steel two horse, Twister hitch was almost torn off the trailer as well as the ball almost ripped from the F-350 frame rails. Actually bent the truck's frame. 45 mph crash.

Of the three brands you named, Elite all day long. Twister seems to be a flash in the pan. Came on the scene with big fancy trailers and they were all over the circuit, now it's few and far between...they were not around long enough for me to say they stood the test of time. Everyone sold them off nearly as quickly as they showed up, did they dump them for a reason? I don't know anyone that had one so I can't give insider info. Lakota has a love/hate following, we have people here that have them and love them and some that have had them fall apart in their hands...search using the Lakota Hut wording in the search bar.
