I am going to reseal the caulk seams on my 2007 Sundowner LQ. I have got much info here re. technique/products. My question is, can I put my weight ion the roof? How do I get to the a/c unit and other spots inaccessible by ladder? Thanks

If the roof is quite flexible and unsupported, use a half sheet of plywood spaced between the ribs to bear your weight. It can easily be moved about as you need to reposition to other areas. Most roofs don't have enough crown to worry about sliding off.

A typically sized person is fine on a Sundowner roof. You may need to seal the horse vents, vent tubes, and shower dome, but the AC uses a compression gasket that is not caulked by the way.

My 2000 Sundowner was sealed at the factory with caulk. It was a very good Sikaflex polyurethane. It leaked at about after 5 years. I resealed the roof again with the factory caulk. Again, after 5 years it leaked. Well ... I'm not insane, so I did it differently at 10 years. I used 2 inch wide eternabond sealing tape. At 6 years, it is leak free. Best of all, application was a lot neater instead of gooping caulk all over the trailer and me in equal parts. Both times I removed the existing caulk to bare metal with a wire brush in a hand grinder. I was able to work from a ladder and not put my weight on the roof. As Gard said use a piece of plywood if you need to be on the roof. I did that when I installed the A/C unit.
