Hi - I have a 2003 Platinum 3 horse LQ trailer. I'm wanting to lube the axles but not sure what type of axles I have exactly. On the the passenger side the axles have the rubber caps and I was hoping it was the Dexter EZ Lube axles with a standard grease fitting like I have on my Bumper Pull but it's different. I have attached a few pics if someone knows what type of axle this is and whether I can lube it without pulling it apart and what grease fitting I need would be grateful.

With a 2003 model and not knowing when it was done last, it would be a good idea to pull tire and remove, clean and inspect and repack bearings. Be sure to change the grease seals as well. Failure of the seals can render your brakes inoperable as well as burn out the bearings and/or cause a fire. Also a good time to check the brakes, magnets and drums. A little work now will give you peace of mind later. Replacement parts are all readily available.

Even if your axle has grease fittings you should never use them if the axle has brakes, they tend to fill the drum up with grease and basically ruin them. just pull them and repack them alot of RV folks are going to the sealed never lube bearings that are sealed for life and you just replace them when they wear out, which should be 10 yearshttp://www.dexteraxle.com/nev_r_lube_bearings

You'll have to change out the axles to get the nev-lube bearings. Tis far better to pull the wheel hubs, grease the bearings, and replace the seals. Are you a do-it-yourselfer ? There are many sources on the internet. I've written one myself. A shameless plug for mrtruck.com

pretty sure you can put hte never lube bearings on any axle, although you either need new brake drums or machine the ones you have the only downside is that they only go up to 8K

The Nevr-Lube axles in theory are a great idea. You must, however, start with these axles as standard axles cannot be retrofitted. The down side is that if you need to replace a bearing capsule or the hub, it is unlikely that you will find either part immediately available anywhere. We carry one bearing capsule in each size, but no hubs. Furthermore, Dexter has discontinued the Nevr-Lube 3500# axle and it's parts. I would stick to something that is available and easy to replace. The picture of the hydraulic brake assembly is certainly ugly, but an electric assembly that gets packed with escaped grease also can cause a short. The shoes in either case will soon deteriorate even if you can get it cleaned up.
