We un winterized the trailer today and discovered a couple disturbing issues when I filled the holding tank up. apparently the pressure switch housing on the water pump has cracked and started leaking water as soon as we turned the pump on. It's an 8 yr old trailer w/a Flojet 35 psi pump. I"m wondering if I should just order a new pressure switch or a whole new pump?
Do these things go bad very often?
Also when I hooked up to city water it started leaking out of the water pump too. (pump was of course off) shouldn't turning on city water completely bypass the water pump anyway?

The top part of the pump appears to have froze and broke. My experience was that the cover or top of the pump is real easy to replace and find. I am sure the internet would help you out. A lot of local farm stores have flojet pumps and parts in stock also. Most times, the pressure switch can be unscrewed from the cover and just replace the cover. I am guessing, but I think on the city water issue, the same deal is the cause. If I remember right, the pump acts as a check valve when you hook up city water. It prevents water from back flowing thru the pump into the fresh water tank. A crack in the pump cover sure leak this way also.In both cases, the pump motor and the pressure switch should be fine. The cover on the pump is all that needs replaced. Good luck!
