I have a 2012 Sundownder 3H GN 8' shortwall LQ and would like to improve the ride for my horses.  I see the Timbren SES kits, but have called several horse trailer dealer service departments and they don't seem to know much about this.

Has anyone had good luck adding a suspension kit to their horse trailer?  The kits I'm looking at cost around $600, not including installation.  Maybe change out the axles to air rides but that seems like it would be cost prohibitive.  Plus if they don't know about the kits I sure wouldn't trust them to change the entire axle!

I'm a bit puzzled that these service departments are not more familiar with this add-on, but maybe it just isn't very common.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wandered around the Timbren site and see no air ride anywhere. So maybe the shops aren't as clueless as you think. Or I just missed it.

The SES is for your truck, to help keep from squatting. There are several threads on here about them, with good posts. But smoothness of a loaded haul- is not a Timbren haulmark.

There used to be an aftermarket air ride from Kelderman. It mounted your existing axles in an air cradle. And any of the regular air axle folks can make a set for you. All of these options will take a fair sum of funds.

You might look into one of the air or rubber hitches. A few threads on here about them, and good results for not a ton of money.

There are several listed on etrailer.com, under trailer suspension.

For trailers it is the STI Air Ride Suspension http://timbren.com/sti-air-ride/

Thank you Paul that is the one I was looking for! Has anyone installed one and if yes, how difficult was it and was the improved ride worth it?
