Hello From DK/Danmark I'm about to buy my first gooseneck horse trailer 4 horse with livning and has a weight of 17,560 lbs but my truck is only approved for 17,000 lbs, it has no effect of driving if you think about huh you put into the trailer and it must be said, we do not have any mountains or the like where it is going to run. trailer is a Lakota charger and the car is a 1 ton chevrolet 3500 dully 2006 gasoline and I know the car is on the low side?.Bjarne

Does the 3500 truck have the 6.0 liter or 8.1 liter gasoline engine...? Manual or automatic transmission? Rear axle ratio 4.10 or 3.73?
I have a 2001 Chevrolet 3500 dually with the 8.1, Allison automatic and 4.10 gears. I have pulled 20+K with it and it pulled it quite well. Stopping that load is a whole nother matter!!!
Do you know for a fact that your trailer weighs 17560# or is that figure the GVWR of the trailer?

Hello Thanks for you time, is only 6,0 and Chevrolet Automatic gearboxand the 17560 I got from lakota Company and the 17000 lbs I got from the owner of the truck.I dont now rear axle 4,10 or 3,73 but it is a worktruck.Bjarne

What year is the Lakota? I have a 2012 3h slant with 15ft short wall. It is 8ft wide and has a slide, ramp and hay rack and still it is only 10k empty. Where did you get the information that your trailer is 17,560 lbs? I didn't know Lakota made a Charger that weighed that much empty. Even a 4 horse and 17 ft short wall, which is the biggest Charger I am aware of, does not weigh that much. If you have not had the trailer weighed at a CAT scale, I would do that before I made any decisions.

Sorry, i missed that you got the number from Lakota. I would think that you may have got the GVWR as was stated. That sounds more like it. Get the trailer weighed. I think you will be surprised. I know the new Lux model from Lakota is really heavy due to the hard woods they use in the cabinets etc. For that they recommend a 450 (4500). Again, Chargers are lighter than that.

That makes a lot more sense. So your dry weight is roughly 11k, you can figure 1000 for gear and such and a 1000lbs for each horse. So that would put you around 15k if you were hauling 4 horses. You said your truck was rated at 17k. You will be within that. I would recommend you put air bags on the rear suspension to help level out the trailer. We did that when we had an F250 hauling our rig. The ride was better and helped with some wind issues. You are running a dully so that should help.

The EU is a stickler for details...my guess is the authorities will pull you over and weigh you every time they see that large a rig on the roads over there...

Hi I know that they will look far for such a long haul but if it is legal, they can just wasting me time hi hi I dont care. They want we live after all their shitty rules, and if you do, you can not breathe. So I only ride in U.S. cars and will own fine horse trailer, and it is difficult and very expensive over here, but you only live once and my life is too short regular cars and horse trailers. Just don't take our word for it, there should be tags inside the drivers door frame that have the weight ratings. If/when the authorities do question the rig size you'll need to show them these numbers to confirm everything specs out.David
