The water in my holding tank stinks, no matter how fresh it is. I know I winterized the wrong way, but it's the only way I know. I have a small electric water heater, and I winterized the whole trailer by putting the red antifreeze in the holding tank, and running it from there through my entire plumbing system. Is there a way to make it smell better?

I don't put the AF in the tank. You should have or get a bypass so you go directly into the lines. You will need to run clean water with bleach to clean it out. Drain out what is in the tank now. You should have a valve that drains it so you don't run it through your system.I use about 1/4 cup per few gallons of water depending how long or strong the smell is. I would fill my tank up half way , run it through the lines and flush several times with clean water.

Several years ago, I had water foul in the water heater which then drained back just enough to taint the fresh tank causing off flavors and smell.

As suggested the thing to do is fill the water tank about half full, dump in 1 - 1 1/2 cup unscented bleach per 40 gallons, finish filling the fresh tank till completely full. Then using the camper pump, flush all water lines including filling the water heater. Once you've detected a slight chlorine odor from each faucet, leave the water/chlorine to sit for at least 10 hours, then drain and flush.

I do this at the beginning of every season, and if needed after sitting for too long.
