Subject: maintenance of aluminum floor in older trailer?

I'm considering purchasing a 1995 4 star trailer. the photos show that the mat is worn completely away in the rear corner where the horse would have his hind hoof. Obviously the mat will need replacing, but Im wondering what else I should be looking for when inspecting the floor in an older aluminum trailer? what is normal maintenance for an uncoated aluminum floor? what kinds of things would you consider objectionable to the point of negotiating price- when it comes to trailer floors that arent "perfect".

Look for a chalky white powder inside AND UNDERNEATH! This will be corrosion, like on a truck battery.I was looking at a beautiful red Kiefer trailer up north. I asked the salesman to pull the mats . He protested and said the floors were fine. After telling him what would happen if I drove the thousand plus miles and found a problem he decided to personally check out the floor. He sent several pics of quarter and half dollar sized HOLES in the floor. This week I finally found my "Perfect " rig out in Alabama. Pending my inspection, of course.

ooh. thanks very much! I will have the seller do the same thing- I have read about people treating their aluminum with a chemical wash every couple of years- does it prevent corrosion, or remove it? Im not referring to the spray on coating material, this was some kind of chemical- do you know about that?thanks very much!Amy
