Am I crazy to consider changing my current new aluminum dividers (which are SOLID), into a more open, airy "jail bar" type? Ordering NEW ones to replace them is wicked expensive. Thinking of asking my specialty/welding/trailer shop to do this......but has anyone ever heard of this being done? Am I nuts? :)

Since it's your trailer, do want you want and who cares what others say. Are you wanting more ventilation, light, or ?

Yep, I want more open and airy and yes, better ventilation plus the horses can see eachother and would like it better.

If your welder is a good TIG welder, you can have him do whatever you want...:)

The flow through dividers are nice. Let us know how it works out with your welder. Please post pictures.

Had a friend that had someone cut slots in the aluminum skin part of his solid dividers. Added the trim-lok to it (like you see on fender edges a lot), and had the airflow for very little money.

Thanks for the feedback, Horsey1, on how your friend created more air flow by cutting out slots in his solid divider and used Trim-Lok. Very resourceful :)

I'm going to call my welding/specialty/trailer shop today and see if it is do-able. My dividers are REALLY REALLY big and solid. If they were "smaller", I might not be as apt to want to do this.

Here is what they look like now:

Just talked to my guy at the shop and he has done this MANY MANY times!!!! Easy peezy and only about $400 for all three of my dividers. That is WAY CHEAPER than ordering new dividers :)

Thanks for taking a peek, gang ;) I really love the airflow and more open/light feeling. Plus I think the horses like to see eachother. I just wasn't keen on those solid ones :)

Thanks guys! BJ - it cost $500 for all THREE DIVIDERS. I'm happy with that...much cheaper than ordering new dividers from Featherlite!!

I'm about to have this done to my steel dividers. How many inches between the bars? I am thinking about what is safest. I would be grateful for input.

Love this divider! Do you mind sharing the shop that made it? I honestly could get one shipped in cheaper than a factory one and it looks like they did a great job!

Thanks guys! Sorry I'm not on the forum often so didn't see some of the latest posts.Ruth - I saw you posted about this same subject, I'm glad you found my thread. I'm not sure how far apart the bars are, but I think it's safest if they can't get a hoof through.Regarding who did this, my local Trailer Repair & Specialty Welding Shop. (San Martin Specialty in San Martin, CA) They are only a few miles away and it's my regular place that checks, maintains, fixes my trailers, so it was really convenient!

I have gotten my divider remodeled and it looks great the bar space is 2.5". Cost a bit more than I thought$338 with tax. And still having a bit of problems with the horse. I'm waiting for the paint smell to fade . I guess it will still take some time to get him used to the thought he can see what's going on.
