Hi all. We are working on ordering a new trailer and I am debating about an oven. We camp a lot and I rarely use the cook top in the trailer, we mainly cook outside. But, I love to bake and I like frozen pizzas. I haven't had an oven, but I am really tempted. I imagine myself baking cookies and brownies, but I also hate to give up the counter space. So if you have or have had one, did you like it? Did it use a lot of propane? Does it need electric to run? Does it take forever to bake?Thank you!

The ovens can be combined with flush counter top burners that will not take up any counter space when they are unused. The stoves run on propane and are started electrically with the LQ battery (s). They run the same temps as your house hold appliances, so baking times are similar. The only difference in baking would be the physical size differences.
They are also a good storage place for pots and pans when they are unused, which for many owners, is a common occurrence.

I had one in my last trailer that I had for ten years. I never used it other than for storing my pot and pans. I like to cook but when I'm camping, I like to keep it simple and don't cook on the same level as at home.

We have combination Microwave / Convection Oven. It's mounted on roof, in between two cabinets, above where cooktop would be. We don't cook inside either unless absolutly have too. We bake pies, bisquits, quiche and all kinds of stuff in convetion mode. Microwave lots of stuff also, plus like mentioned above it good storage when not in use especially while traveling. Wouldn't be without it, after all you got to have Hot Bisquits to go along with Crook Pot Roast:)

We have the option of the convection, so maybe we will go that way. Usually I cook simply when camping too, but I have always thought I might bake. It is probably one of those things where once I have it, the idea isn't as appealing! The only oven option we have is not a recessed top, it may not be a fair trade of counter space. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it!

An alternative is to take along your toaster oven. I purchased one that is large enough to hold a 9 x 13 pan at Walmart for $100 This way, I can make a large pan of lasagna, etc at home and freeze it to take camping. I can set the over outside and not heat up the camper (when you are camped where you have hook ups). Or leave oven at home if I won't be using it.

LOVE having the oven. Had one in our cabover camper, and was actually a selling point on the current trailer. Love doing biscuits or cinnamon rolls, but have done a baked chicken for Christmas.

My wife wanted one when we had our LQ trailer built. I didn't think we needed it but she really does use it. It turned out to be a good addition for us. Glad we have it.

When we got out trailer it had one and we both said well we will never use that. We use it all the time. Love having an oven will never have a trailer without one again. Ours is all propane it does not need electric to start and it doesnt use much propane to run it either.

I really appreciate everyone's input. I am just as on the fence, but it is good to hear some people use and love them. Might be a last minute decision! Also, I have seen those portable camp ovens used, I'm just not sure where I would be able to store it. Thanks!

Anything you can do in an oven you can do in a dutch oven. They are easy to pack and kind of fun to use. Cobblers, biscuits and cakes are easy to do and really add to the camping experience.

If you think you might use it, what is the down side of ordering it? If it is storage, you will have to store the other portable units described. The ovens aren't all that expensive when you consider getting something portable anyway. If you don't get it and find out you wished you did, much harder to get one later vs. if you get one and don't use it as much as you thought, you can store things in it.

When we ordered our trailer the oven was an after thought. And one well worth it too. It doesn't seem to take up much space, as it is under our 4 burner stove top. We only use it bake biscuts or warm up a pizza. It doesn't take much propane and it heats up rather quickly. I would probably use it more if we had more time to cook around the camp. Ours runs on propane only. You can keep the pilot light lite if you want. Just think how handy it would be to bake a batch of cinnamon rolls in the morning! Yes, I recommend them.

We are already losing a little kitchen space in the new trailer. It will also only have 3 drawers and this will take up two of them and counter space. It's more of a trade off than I want, but I've also always wanted an oven. It's a hard problem to have, I know! ;)

Just wanted to thank everyone again, we went with an oven! I was going to skip it as we had added a few other options. They offered a convection microwave, but I would have lost the same drawers as if I went with the oven but with a smaller cooking area. At the end of the deal, the dealer threw the oven in for dealer cost and saved us about $200 on it, so we went with it. Thanks all!
