My name is Brandi - I have 2 Missouri Foxtrotters - raised them since they were babies....
The reason I am here is learn all i can about trucks/towing capabilities and trailers. I want to learn all I can before I buy my trailer.... my dad just bought me a 2008 Chevy Avalanche from my Grandfather - I physically don't have the truck, its still with my Grandfather, we're going to go pick up with in the next 2 weeks. I don't kow all the specs that it has on it - I do know that my Grandfather did use it to pull his camper.
It kinda makes me nervous just thinking about pulling a trailer and pulling a trailer with my horses in the back of it. They are my babies and I want to haul them as safely as I can.
Just wanted to drop in and say hi. And to prepare every one that I will probably be asking a lot of questions!!

Welcome to the forum. Your Chevy can pull a 2H BP trailer with a modest tack area without much difficulty. If it not equipped, you may have to install an electric brake controller. Once you have the truck, you can best determine what is needed to safely tow your babies.
Towing is a learning experience shared by many. We all learned over time, and still do so with every trip. Start with the basics, an empty trailer, a large open parking lot, maybe some cones or markers to avoid, and practise. When you feel more confident, head for an isolated road with curves and stops.
Riding in the trailer, whilst another driver is towing, will enable you to know what your animals are encountering during their travels. It can help hone your driving skills and provide more comfortable trips for the horses.

Welcome! A bunch of good folks here with a lot of knowledge they are willing to share. I think you'll find when trailering horses, you'll get the best results when you think ahead, and it looks like you're doing that now!

Welcome! We also have a good archives on here, that you can search and read past discussions. Lots of very experienced folks on here when it comes to towing. what type of riding do you do with your horses?

Western riding, I want to do cowboy dressage. And the barn that I was previously at thats what their main focus was. But do to a disagreement and a respect issue with their riding instructor I decided that it was best for me to switch barns. So right now I just want to advanced my riding skills so I can ride and have fun...and be safe while doing it.

I know some people that learned how to pull horse trailer by putting a glass of water filled to 1" below the top and placed it on the dashboard or cup holder and tried to drive without spilling it. I didn't learn this way but maybe should have (lol)
