Hello all, I'm shopping for an used aluminum 2 horse slant GN with tack. Have my eye on a 2001 Sooner, appears to be in pretty good shape. These 2 horse slants are tricky to find .. Been looking all winter. I'm in Pacific Northwest in isolated, rural area ... Not much going on here trailer wise. Anyone want to venture an educated guess on value of the Sooner? Step up, drop down windows, carpeted tack, no dings I can see, new tires, says all lights, brakes in good shape. Appreciate any help.

I was looking for the same type of trailer in WA as well, with minimal luck. Trailers hold their value reasonably well and the 2h GN are hard to find. I looked at a '96 Shelby 2h GN that was priced at $7500 in good shape for it's age. I'd likely expect to pay around $10k? I've seen a few more recent 2h GN (one 2006 Sundowner, one 2012 Trails West) north of the border in BC listed for $13,500 (so low $12k US). None of the trailers I looked at were all aluminum, and those are usually pricier.

Thx for your input, I appreciate it. Wish there were a Kelly blue book for horse trailers.
No KBB, because trailer prices are very regionally influenced...for example in the New England area...bumper pull 2 horse with raised roof height and a little dressing room seem to be the trailer of choice...and you can sell a used one literally until the wheels fall off them...

Paul, thx for input. Anything more to add? Best estimate on the Sooner 2001 2 horse aluminum gooseneck? I don't feel I can be as discerning as I'd like because they're hard to find up here. That's part of my problem, so few to compare to, I have a hard time getting a handle on fair price. Thx.

Hopefully there is someone on the site that is from your area hat can provide more definitive numbers for your part of the country...but search on this site's trailer sales system...Google the internet for your trailer of choice then examine all of those ads to see what the average price comes in at...then if the number is close enough to the asking price of the trailer you are looking at...bite the bullet and buy...:) You could always have a used trailer you like but is out of your area shipped to you via uship

Ok, I did the uship bidding quotes last weekend for a trailer in New York! Why there appear more of these 2 horse goosenecks in the east confuses me...seems like they go fast out here, but appear more available in the east . Thx again!!

Like the price of anything, the question of supply and demand, and what a customer is willing to pay, will dictate what an item is worth. Many new 2H GN DR trailers cost in the range of ~$20k -~$25k + depending on options. Many 10 year old aluminum trailers can sell for over 60% of the new prices.
Last year we bought a 15 year old 2H GN DR 4 Star and paid slightly less than half of its new cost. We looked at new custom built trailers for a couple of years and wanted specific options, as the used ones meeting our criteria were all but non existent for some time. Finally we found a used trailer, similarly optioned to what we were looking for, and quickly made the purchase.
It may take time to find your dreams and they may not be local. Be prepared to spend some time and effort on your searches.

Thx for your input, 4stars are nice! Link you sent is also nice. Similar to trailer I'm looking at, also enclosed, which I'm conflicted over .. Never had one, hadn't been thinking of one, not sure I want one ... Pretty much haul fair weather and have enjoyed air passing thru with stock trailer. Lots of things to consider. And I hear your words, take time, get what u want, prepare to pay for it. Thx!

I appreciate everyone's feedback. I'm looking at two trailers, one 2003 C&C 2H GN slant pretty streamlined, no drop downs, not enclosed. The other 2001 Sooner same but enclosed with drop downs, fancier in general, also with rear tack . I wasn't looking for rear tack and its collapsible (aside from vertical bar), my main concern is additional length and weight that feature adds to trailer. I'm going from hauling narrow single axle 12 ft GN to wider and longer 2H slant GN....don't want to get something that feels like I'm hauling the house to the mountains. I tend to over analyze, but it's an investment and I want to choose wisely ;-)
Any guidance on that rear tack issue or other?

I can't comment on the rear tack as I don't have one, but I will say a permanent vertical bar at the back is annoying, because even if you fold the rear tack down to make loading more inviting for a difficult horse, that bar is still in the way. I'm considering a rear tack in the future.I will say I ended up buying a 2h Circle J GN with a dressing room. Steel frame with aluminum skin, and I didn't pay as much as I thought I'd have to. It was the only one on the lot at that price (end of the year, etc), but it is doable. It's just under 15' on the deck. I was also concerned about not wanting any extra length or trailer, but at 4300 lbs dry weight and 15' length, it's easily maneuverable. I had never pulled a GN, and learned to maneuver it easily. It's short wall is about 3ft, so with less dressing room it could've been about 12ft deck length. The dressing room seems quite large at the moment, but I haven't gotten it outfitted for camping yet. I think if you plan to camp out of it, having at least a 2 ft short wall will be necessary. I saw a lovely 99 trails west on this site in CO, but it didn't have a short wall and the dressing room seemed like it'd be cramped once you had your stuff and horse tack in there. Granted, a rear tack could alleviate this problem.

Lonepine7,I have an 2006 All aluminum 2 horse slant load I would sell. Its a Classic Monarch. Has the fiberglass roof, rumber floors, drop windows on the headside and sliders on the butt side, double rear doors. Its a step up with no rear tack. tack has swinging 3 padded rack up front. Has a 4' hayrack on top. Whole inside is carpeted up to the ceiling. Trailer is triple walled. (has the styro-foam insulation in the walls ) Has a boot box. I had the ceiling insulated with 1" foam board. Has a 3' short wall and is 14' on the deck. really a nice trailer. I use it for camping but want a bigger 3 horse trailer for more room. I bought this brand new and had upgraded 8 lug aluminum wheels and 6,ooo pound rubber torsion axle upgrade as well. Never hit anything with it or run into a ditch or anything. Sticker says it weighs 4400 lbs. I pulled it easily with my half ton truck before I got my Duramax diesel. I would sell at $12,500. Have a ton of pics I could send ya. Don't know how to load them onto the page such as this.Located in Northern California

Thx again ALM. Jack brat your trailer sounds very much what I'd love to have, but probably too nice and a bit too much money. I decided to pass on the 2001 Sooner, not nearly as nicely loaded as yours, but very nice, and am considering the bare bones C&C ..unfortunately it's across the country..but something I can pay cash and have a decently made trailer, size and weight doable, shop stored. This is a great site, I love the input and thx again for your offer.
