Subject: Sticker Problem- American trailer in Canada

Hi everyone :)I have a sad dilemma. My parents bought a Ponderosa trailer from a seller in America, but they live in Canada. They brought the trailer back across the border to Canada without any problems, but despite checking everything they thought was required before the purchase, they realized after the sale that the trailer is missing a sticker needed for road use in Canada- the sticker that declares the weight allowance for the trailer.Unfortunately, the maker of the trailer, Ponderosa, is now out of business, so my parents don't know what to do- the Canadian registration office told them that their only options are to either take the trailer back to America (probably sell it at a loss) or to destroy the trailer. This makes me really sad because it was a gift from my Dad to my Mom, and they saved up for it. She was really happy to receive it, and yet the Canadian transport office is not giving them any options- all for one missing sticker. Everything else is fine with the trailer.Does anyone know how my parents could go about getting a replacement sticker for a Ponderosa trailer (seeing that Ponderosa is out of business?)Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!Thank you,-Shauna

Thanks loveduffy, that's a good idea. I think my parents will try anything at this point! Thanks for the suggestion.

Sorry for your dilemma.

Is there a 'home-made' trailer option for registering? Can they contact the seller and see if they have any paperwork that would show the weight?

What about the title? It should have some reference to GVW...ours does. That determines the typer of plate we get based on weight.

Government employees, got to love em :)

So if you had a 15K trailer and the the GVR sticker came off (and the manufact was out of business) you have to scrap the trailer?? BS

Have a data plate made,, should be able to online.

tell em you just built it in your shop a couple years ago, get it weighed and get plates, that's what they would do around here.:)

Good ideas guys! We were considering the "homemade" option, but I don't know whether it will work or not anymore since my parents already told the officials the situation of the trailer (they know it wasn't homemade, that my parents just bought it)However, my Dad said that as a last effort he might be able to "destroy" the trailer (cut off the axles because we have to send photo proof to the officials that it has been "destroyed/unfit for the road" if we can't licence it.) and then get his friend who does metalwork to make new axels, making it a newly "homemade" horse trailer.Fun, fun fun...Thanks for the input everyone!!!

Homemade trailer option is slowly going away...in attempt to cut down on trailer theft...in which thieves remove the manufacturers plate and then register the trailer as homemade...:(

It is really sad when a hard working honest person has to go to these extremes to get a legal license plate

Can they go to a different office to try and register the trailer as 'homemade'?
