I am going to have to replace my 2002 F250 extra cab, only because the 5.4 gas engine is way to little for a 3h steel GN trailer.

I love the ford super duty extra cab, the front fits 3 adults, the rear fits 2 teenagers fine or 3 squeezed in.

A crew cab with 8' bed would be to long. Does the crew cab make that much diff? or is it just visual?

Gas or diesel ? Towing about twice a month (1-2 hours each way), and used a s a 2nd vehical (2-4 10 min trips a week).

I will be looking in the 2000- 2008 year range.

1) as far as extra cab size, are Ford, Chevy, dodge the same size?? the chevy cabs allways felt smaller than the ford?

2) do all 3 makers have a large gas engine? like fords V10?

I am not looking for comfort, rubber mats, crank windows. But I want durability!! I am shying away from Dodge because have heard bad things about the trans?? (auto a must)

Thanks,

Nick

Here is my suggestion. Get a crewcab, diesel, short or longbox... auto trans with jake brake if you can find one. You will never look back with a diesel.

The diesel will be well worth the money when hauling. Its not just the back seat room you gain with the crew cab but the full four doors. It makes the truck much more versatile. Will not have one without a crew cab now. When hauling the GN, you will like an 8 foot bed. You can get by with a short bed but you have to be careful. Take too sharp a turn and you will have your trailer through your back window. We went from a 2007 F250 diesel crew cab long bed to a 2012 F350 diesel crew cab long bed douley, have not regretted that for a min!
