We are moving from CA back to MI shortly. We have a '91 F250 460ci, with a '92 3 horse slant Logan trailer. Have a 9ft slide in camper on the back. We are taking our 1200 lb. guy home with us- only one in the trailer. We have gotten by with a Reese Class 3 for years, but with the camper and needed extension, I'm getting conflicting suggestions - from the 3 will be fine, to a welded IV or a bolted on V so I can take advantage of a 2 1/2 extension, as opposed to the 2". What has worked for you ? Thanks

What is the weight of your trailer and also the weight of your camper? A class three hitch is usually good up to 5K pounds where as a class IV is good up to 12K. The class three tongue max of 500 lbs and class IV 1200 would drive my decision along with the GVWR of trailer. Depending on the weight of your trailer and the camper, you may be maxed out coming through the mountains. Make sure the tires are in good shape and are aired up.

Since you are using a hitch extension, I would definitely go the class 1V hitch. When you extend that puts a lot of pressure on the hitch. I would assume that you Logan has a considerable amt of hitch weight. Have a good safe trip..
