Before I make a rather long trip to hopefully buy a trailer, what can I do in advance to make it as likely as possible that I make a successful purchase? I have the VIN so I can do a search to make sure the title is clear and it isn't stolen, etc. I can have someone go to check it out in person to make sure it is accurately advertised. What else can I do to be thorough? And is Carfax the best place to search the VIN? Or is there a site better-suited to trailers? Thanks for any advice.

I have seen many advertised that weren't very accurate. Tagged as a 12' shortwall when it was clearly a 10. Sold as all aluminum when it wasn't. Many are listed as 7'6" tall that are 7' tall. And so on.
Good dealers are careful about their listings. Some are not. Individuals often don't have a clue what they own. Just my observations from years of ad watching on this and other sites.
I'd be careful whose word I trusted to inspect it.
