trot on....we did the Shadow Cruiser set up for almost a year when we decided we wanted to ride all the hard to get in and way off the beaten path kind of trails. I'm glad we did it because to have the same creature comforts, an LQ trailer wouldn't have fit. Tried it, and had to back over a mile in the dark because we couldn't fit over a little high sided bridge on a curve in the mountains! That was back in 91. Now with the internet , you basically can figure out if you fit without an issue BEFORE you're wedged in somewhere!

We have had this one since 1995. We have loved the camper set up, as we indeed, could get to places an LQ would not have ever gotten in to. I am surprised by the weight, as it had weighed about that with 3 horses and a different trailer in 2001. So, I have got to put the rig on a diet!
Now days, where we go, LQ's get in. So, maybe we will make a change in the next few years.

Got a used LQ.
2001 Trails West 3H, mid tack (converted to mud room), 9' short wall. 28' total length on the floor. Its the Classic (single wall construction) . LQ not done in the heavy wood etc. I had tanks empty. Trailer had none of my "stuff" in it yet.
Weight= 8930
2001 F350, 4x4 dually 4 door.
Weight= 8320
Total 17,250
CAT scale. Many truck stops have them, and you can weigh the whole rig, go drop the trailer, weigh the truck.
I've said before, lots of 1 ton trucks pulling HUGE LQ trailers, that I would put money are over loaded

Back when my daughters were riding with me, And I tried to entice my wife to come along by providing some nicer creature comforts. I bought a 2007 Logan XT 4H LQ.
That trailer loaded with my stuff, 4H ran about 15,000 lbs.
My 2006 F350, Trailer and family & horses crossed the scale at 23,000 lbs. Right at the max GCVW. I was slightly under on my front truck axle, 200 lbs over on my rear axle and under on the trailer axles. It did nothing to get my wife to come more often, So I sold it and now just sleep in an unfinished Gooseneck or set up a wall tent. I just need someplace to stay dry on a wet night. Current trailer is 13,000 lbs loaded with horses and gear.

We have a scale a few miles from us and we are actually going to make a point before our next camping trip to get it weighed loaded. It is a three horse Featherlite 14 foot LQ 7'6" high and eight foot wide. We weighed the truck and it was around 7200/7400, can't quite remember. Hubby thinks it will be around fifteen, hmmmmm. Supposedly it is 9700 empty, we will see.

I'd be curious to hear your results. With the 14' LQ and 8' wide..... I bet you will be surprised at what it weighs

2005 Dodge Ram, quad cab, long bed srw, 3500, 4 horse Trails West w/short LQ, and fuel/water/4 small horses, (we have Arabs and had a Peruvian Paso), weight.......23,444!!!!!WOW! THAT was an eye opener! Tag on trailer said, 11,900 on empty trailer, so all that "stuff", and horses? MINUS the passengers? WOW!

'08 Chevy Crew Cab 3500. Lakota 3H/12 ft LQ w/slide (27 ft on floor). Two horses and a full black water tank as we were on our way home. 22800 on the CAT scale. Which is very close to my guess and above the hubby's guess.

Just recently weighed my 2 horse 4 Star trailer at the grain elevator after a weekender was installed. In it I had a saddle, some tack and a few other camping items, pots and pans etc. It's a 4 foot short wall 14' on the floor. I did not have any water in it and it weighed in at 4960 LBS. This is a simple weekender, with a cowboy shower and no air. I think that the weekender only increased the weight by about 800 LBS. I am told that the air conditioner I plan to add will weigh another 100 LBS.
This trailer is small, but soooo easy to manage.

I don't think the charts are taking into account the width or height of a trailer which can greatly alter their weights. We have an Exiss three horse with a 4' full LQ. It weighs ~5613# empty. This works out to 312 lbs per lin foot. The same trailer in a two horse, almost 3' shorter, weighs 300# less. Our Sidekick which has a 13' LQ, a mid tack, and is also a three horse, weighs 9827# empty, which works out to be 289# per lin ft.
Our trailers are 7' x7'. Trailers 8' wide and 7 1/2' high weigh considerably more, and may better conform to the chart. This is why it's difficult for one person to form an opinion based on the experiences of others. There are many variables involved in the weights of trailers, trucks and the livestock. They will include axle placements, trailer shapes and accessories, all of which will make their towing experiences, greatly varying from owner to owner.
It is MY Understanding that the weight per foot is strictly for the LQ section of the trailer; not the entire trailer. It is ALSO my understanding that each interior company has their own standard... which is why that chart might be very helpful.
