We are looking for a 3 horse bumper pull. We like the Shadow Pro Series. Which trailer brands/models/lines are the most similar to them?
I would prefer to stay under $13,000, and we'd prefer new, but would consider a used trailer if less than 5 years old or so and a good deal price-wise. Must haves: all aluminum, rear tack, escape door, small dressing room/front tack, insulated walls/ceiling.
We are near Hillsboro, OH and would be willing to drive up to 250 miles for the perfect trailer.

I'll bet you talked to Ed Ramsey at Coughlin Automotive in London, OH about the Shadow trailers. They are good trailers and I liked Ed. But read on. You may get very lucky like we did.3 weeks ago, we drove up to London from CIncinnati to look at a Shadow 2 horse bumper pull at Coughin. They were nice and the price was pretty good for a new trailer. Then we stopped down the road at Lakota of Ohio and looked at a very nice Lakota that the owner had custom built for himself. Again, a nice trailer. But the Shadow and Lakota trailers were unknowns to us and we didn't feel the need to close a deal that day. So we started back home to do some more research.My wife happened to be surfing the iPad as we were driving home and found a 2012 Featherlite 9406 up in Urbana at a place called the Buzzard Barn. Featherlite was a brand that we recognized and based on the ads on this board, they hold their value very well. We looked up the 9406 price on the internet and the best price we could find was $17,200. I called the Buzzard Barn and they quoted me $15,200. Needless to say, we went straight up, looked at the trailer and bought it.The good news for you is they have a nice Featherlite 9409 3H slant load:http://www.equipmenttraderonline.com/find/listing/2011-FEATHERLITE-9409-99924561If the link doesn't work, google Buzzard Barn Urbana, OHThey are listing it at $14,300 and as a 2011. They listed my 9406 at $17,200 and a 2011 on the web, but sold it to me for $15,200 and titled it as a 2012. They told me they became a Featherlite dealer last Aug and Featherlite gave them 6 trailers at a discount to start selling. They hadn't sold any until we showed up. And they don't know anything about horse trailers. But at that price, I had to jump on it.So, I would give the Buzzard Barn a call tomorrow and ask them what they want for that Featherlite 9409. You may just have to drive up and pull it home.Let me know how it turns out.Tom

Why don't my returns end up as new paragraphs when I post?For example, I just hit return and this should be on a new line but it's not. Drives me crazy and makes for a post that is difficult to read.

Did you happen to look at the interior of the 9409? The link you provided (perfect, since the dealer website doesn't list their inventory) only has exterior pictures. I'm wondering if the 9409 has the optional extra padding, and if the walls/roof are lined/insulated like the Shadow Pro Series.

Kristen, I did not look inside the 9409. I'd guess it is not lined and just comes with the standard padding. My 9406 has no optional stuff and I would have liked a lined trailer. Coughlin quoted $13,800 for a Pro Series 2H straight load. That's a good price. If you call and the Buzzard Barn folks tell you that 9409 is $11,300, you might want to line the Featherlite yourself. No, Tom, I didn't. We decided that we really want an escape door, padding, insulation...and we're actually thinking about a gooseneck now too (before we were set on bumper pull).

A custom trailer would be great, but we can't afford that. We're within budget for a new 3 horse bumper pull (REALLY liked that Shadow Pro Series at Coughlin!) but we're very tempted by a gooseneck with a weekender package, which is definitely beyond our budget to buy new--we're not opposed to used. BUT we're going to have a problem with weight as our truck can only tow up to 8400 pounds, so a gooseneck with weekender might be beyond our towing capabilities. Guess it just depends on the trailer brand and how much weight a weekender package actually adds to the trailer weight.

Sent you a pm with some trailers to look at! We do have many living quarters in stock Our living quarters start at about 5800 lbs depending what you want in them. And custom build doesnt mean extra pricing!
