Does anyone use the Ecotemp? Does the whole unit need to be used outside or just the propane tank? I also found a Big Kahuna which is more solar for heat but has a 12 volt pump. Thinking ahead for the next project. Any suggestions on these?Thank you.

I have the Ecotemp and use it in the first stall. I hung it from the window bars with a bucket strap and turned the heat shield around backwards so the heat would escape through the open window. Been using it that way for about 3 years and no issues. My propane tank actually sits on the floor just under the water heater.

I have my pump made to be portable and mounted on a 1x8 about 2 ft long. I use brass quick connects on all the hoses, and I power it with jumper leads to the 12v charging outlet on my Honda 1000 inverter generator. Right now I just kind of have all thrown together. I haven't taken the time to mount anything yet.

The Big Kahuna and Eccotemp L5 are two of the best products in that category but each will be used for different purposes in my opinion:
The Big Kahuna is self-contained which means it's easy to carry anywhere.
The 12-volt pump is integrated to the unit so no need to carry as a separate part plus no propane tank to drag around either.
The Big Kahuna does not heat water which doesn't cause aany issues while travelling in warm climates but can be a little uncomfortable when used with cooler conditions. Good for the beach, on the boat, to wash hands and the sand off your feet, etc.
On the flip side, the Eccotemp L5 does heat water and provides comfortable warm water for showers as well as scorching hot water when cranking up the gaz regulator knob. Good for heavier cleanup jobs and showers. It's easy to setup but still requires a bit of work(even more true if you're planning on using it with a water pump)
