Of course your budget will really dictate some of your decisions.

In new trailers you will find several classes of trailers,  On the higher end are the trailers with all the bells and whistles.  That have solid wood cabinets and top of the line ammenities. Often with higher end built in entertainment, flat screens tv, DVD players, sound systems. These trailers are often built by one trailer manufacture and the LQ is built out by a second company.

Then there are the mid range LQ. Where the trailer manufacture has a division that builds the LQ. Often as they build the trailer. These often use Particle board or MDF faced with hardwood veneers for the cabinets vs solid wood. Plastic, fiberglass or composit fixtures, such as toilets, sinks in place of porcelain fixtures. Vinyl flooring in place of ceramic tile.

Each of these trailers can provide a dry place to sleep, thermastat controlled furnace, built in fridges etc. Most of these components are going to be the same.  There are only 2-3 brands of fridges, furnances, air conditioners, stoves, water pumps & heaters, power convertors etc that are commonally used in the RV market.

As you consider brands, realize that almost any RV dealer will be able to service the appliances. The real difference will be the size, slide out or not, and the type of materials used to for the build out.

Look at the size you need. Is it going to be a minimal weekender, or a full blown luxury follow the circuit trailer. I just want a dry place to sleep, but a rodeo cowboy living on the road for 6 weeks at time, may want more ammenities.

Im not sure about other trailers places but Shadow trailers has LQs for every type buyer.  Shadow trailer has LQS from large top small they even have one that you can pull with a half ton truck.  If nothing else they are atleast worth looking into.

Ditto to painted horse..it all depends of your budget and needs/wants. Do you want top of line or do you need a bed, fridge and table? After many years of showing I had developed a list of wants and needs...I knew what I needed in a trailer that I would be in for up to 5 days at a time and then I figured what I wanted if I could afford it. Now this list will change over time. Some people start out with bare basics but over time will upgrade as finances allow. You might want to keep that in mind as well-you might just want more comfort so if you can buy it now. How much truck to do you have? Personally I'd start with a 3/4 ton and nothing less.Another personal note- the brand wasn't a concern as much as what it offered and how much trailer I could buy. I ended up with a Exiss Event which has served me well for 6 years now. My next trailer will be any brand as long as it met my list.

Before you purchase go to a dealer with a lot of trailers and just go sit in them.  Think about how you'll live in it.  How does it feel to you?  Open and airy or tight and congested?  Where would you put stuff?  Silverware, pots and pans, clothing, socks and underwear, dirty clothes, etc.  What do you need with you and where are you going to put it?  Toaster, coffee maker, an oven?  Do you want outside power outlets? Speakers? Is it fully insulated? What stall size, height and width trailer?  8 foot tall gives you a lot of extra storage space, great headroom over the bed and plenty of room for the high headed horse.  Ask people what they like, hate and love about their LQ trailers.  From there research the brands and ask the dealers, what makes your trailer so good?  Then look hard at the horse compartments.  How well is it built, is there any hidden dangers?  I find it shocking some of the stuff I see manufactured.  "Look, it has a kick stand to hold the door open so I can get my horse out, isn't that great?"  I see a spear that my horse will impale his hind leg on.  How long will you keep your trailer?  How well does the brand you choose hold up in value?  Look at what 5 and 10 year old trailers are selling for.  And last but not least, what do you need to pull it with.  Always go with more truck.  I had to buy an F450 when there wasn't a lot of them on the road, but it can stop my trailer with no breaks and doesn't move anything on the counter.  Oh, and will your insurance cover a 450.  I had a hard time finding someone because it was considered a commercial vehicle.  Good luck and have fun.

I would recommend going to an event, like Equine Affair, Quarter Horse Congress, ect, where there will be lots of trailers from many manufacturers. You can walk thru them ask questions from the company reps, then go right next door to compare to the next manufacturer. You can keep going back and forth until you really know one from the next.

I agree with going to a dealer and checking out as many as you can.  Every time we were camping my husband would see a trailer he liked and asked the owners if we could look inside.  Most people were happy to show off their trailer and tell us the pro's and con's of it.

We had a 1997 4-star that was in great condition in 2011 when we sold it---the only reason we sold it was to upgrade to a trailer with full living quarters and to go from 2 horse to 3 horse.  Had we been able to afford it, we would have bought another 4 star.  We ended up buying a Lakota and are very very happy with it.  It is a mid-range trailer as far as cost and ammenities go.  I knew I wanted double sinks in the kitchen area and a full size refrigerator/freezer so that had an impact on the size of the living quarter we bought.

Good luck to you.

I bought a Lakota last year 15' short wall w/slide 4 horse. I had seen a few while we were camping and on line. I loved all the options that I could get for the price. We have been camping alot this year and just love it. We did not have any dealers around us so we orderd ours  from Lakota of Ohio and they just delivered it to us(that a funny story in its self) I can't say enough about Gary and his guys there I would do it again in a heart beat.

Thanks Elite.....used exclusively for showing....currently own a Hawk 2H bumper pull but lately havin g to leave the horses at the show and hustle back and forth to hotels has been tiring and expensive. See some of the newer manufacturers offering a lot more as standard features but we're leery about going with a manufacturer who;s not "established."
