Just curious as to some of the lighter 3 horse goosenecks out there. Unfortunately most manufacturers don't list their trailer weights so it's a little difficult to research.
I just weighed my older steel 3H GN trailer (only 6' wide, 6.5" tall, and 2' short wall, 16' floor length) and it weighed a hefty 5120lbs empty.
I'd like to upgrade to full Aluminum in the future and I would love to shed a bunch of trailer weight when doing so. I have little horses, only two of them, and I'm more interested in smaller lighter trailers than the other end of the spectrum.
Silverlite, who is now out of business, had a 3 horse GN (Freedom model) with 2' shortwall listed at 3,470 pounds, Any other models close to or lighter than that?

Thats not true according to the numbers I see listed, unless you consider almost 1000 pounds "a couple of hundred".
There is a lot of difference in construction and add ons and from what I have seen, it can have a very significant impact on weight.
Like I mentioned, Silverlite had a 3 horse GN Freedom model which was 7' tall and 7' wide and listed at 3470 pounds
Exiss has a ES300 3 horse model that is also 7' tall and 7' wide and I see it listed on trailer sites at 4460 pounds (Exiss doesn't seem to list weights).
Both of these trailers are similar in that they have open "slats" except the Silverlite has them all around while the Freedom had drop downs on the head side. If anything I would have expected the drop downs to add weight. The Exiss is one foot longer than the Silverlite, but I don't think there is any way one could guess based on appearance that the Exiss would be 990 pounds heavier, and in my opinion 990 pounds is significant. I wouldn't be shocked to learn that the actual on-the-scales weights of these two trailers are closer than the "reported" weights but that is why I posted here to see if anyone has actual knowledge of light weight (ideally put on scales) 3 horse gooseneck trailers. Also I don't need 7' wide and 7' tall. My horses fit very well in my 6' wide 6'6" trailer and IF someone made an AL model with those dimensions I bet it would significantly lighter than the "average" newer aluminum 3H GN.

P.S. I have a F250 super duty diesel, I have enough truck to pull my existing trailer I just don't like pulling around an extra 1600 or so pounds if I don't need to.

I guess you can't edit posts here, in my post above it should have read the Exiss CX300, not ES.
I would have thought the Exiss sports models were quite light too, but the ES300 (sport) I see listed at various places is 4380 pounds.
That's not bad, but I wouldn't consider it all that light either. I think part of the reason the sports aren't lighter is they all come with 4' short walls as opposed to 2' which is more standard in this class.

I don't know exactly how to word this, and please don't think it a critical statement, but........is there a concern that at some point the lack of weight begins to indicate a certain lack of structure?
And, more to the point of the Original Question, is there a large dealer you could drive to and see if they would let you take and weigh the ones you are interested in, or perhaps they could do so ?
Good luck in your search, wish we could be more helpful......

flyingh,
I think your concerns are valid, at some point you can't go any lower weight without sacrificing integrity.
In hindsight I worded my post poorly, I'm not actually looking for THE lightest 3h gooseneck, just a list of some of the trailers that are on the lighter end of the spectrum. Once armed with this list my plan would be to choose the best trailer for me, and there are certainly some things that are worth paying extra for, both in terms of dollars as well as weight.
I called Shadow earlier today and their 3H stablemate model, which is 7' tall but only 6' wide is supposed to weigh in the 3400-3500 range, so it is also on the low end of the weight spectrum.
Anyway, here are three sub-4000# trailers in a 3h GN configuration I have found so far:
Silverlite Freedom (3480#)
Sundowner Rancher Special (varies from 3400#-3900# depending on which website you believe)

Looking at your last post referencing the varying weights on the Sundowner- remember you must look at options. Rubber floor matting in a 3H can weigh up to 400# or so. The thin mats are less of course.
Some types of protective wall lining can add several hundred pounds in a hurry.

According to my dealer book, the 3H Sundowner Rancher Special comes in at 3880 pounds (stock combo model); and the 3H Sundowner Sportman gn (enclosed) comes in weighing 4,090 pounds.

Thanks Jim Bob!
I'm no expert and I haven't seen one in person, but I would guess that new Rancher special will be a good seller out this way (CO). Lots of folks I know prefer a stock/combo type trailer for their horses over a fully enclosed anyway, and the price is really good.
