Tell me more about them?  I looked on the site but still not sure what goes on.  All I know about field trials is they  are for testing bird dogs, and that horses are used to track them but that is the extent of my knowledge.  I have seen "used for field trials" in many horse sale add. How many horses do they use?  Where do they get the horses? Who rides the horses that are used in field trials.  thanks

It has been about 3 years since I was there;  a lot of us went on President's Day to ride in the gallery, which is behind the dog, handlers and judges.  That time there were several hundred riding in the gallery.  They run a morning trial and an afternoon trial.  There was/is a hot lunch available in the dining hall.

It will be about a 6 hour haul for me now, but I really am wanting to go and meet up with some of my pals.

Pretty fast paced ride over all types of terrain.  Plan to be on horseback for a long time.  Gaited horse is most comfortable. Ames Plantation in Feburary it seems is always muddy too !!

Hi Rose.  I wont be there this year for the trials but may be at the museum for some of the dinners, etc as I am life member of the Bird Dog Foundation. I will probably be at the Springer trials early Feb. http://www.birddogfoundation.com/current_events.htm

Merry Christmas!
