Hubby witerized the trailer this weekend and everything went well. But can somebody tell me what this little valve on the back of the water heater does...It is a shut of between the hot and cold lines coming into the WH.
I cannot post a picture so if anyone thinks they might know I can send via Private email. crappyappycj@verizon.net

Sounds like it might be the bypass valve. If you google rv water heater, you should be able to see some photos. My bypass valve is in the front of the water heater with the drain valve.

Well, I thought that might be what it was since I have been reading alot on here about them but it doesn't seem like it shuts anything off...It runs between the cold going into the hot water heater and the hot water leaving the tank. It is it's own entity just there between the two. Still stumped but I'll look around the internet for some pictures with expainations. Thanks so much.

Yep, I totally understand what you are saying, what we have looks to be a valve that allows cold water to flow into the hot water line to possibely cut down on how much hot water you use? We went to the RV store in town and looked at several bybass set ups and we don't have one of those... Well I guess we can add one later if needed. Thanks so much for trying to help.

You should also have a cutoff valve on both hot and cold water lines. That one is the bypass for running antifreeze into your lines so you don't have to run it through the hot water tank.

Should have added; Close the valves on the hot and cold lines and open the valve on the bypass line. It allows the water to loop into the hot water line. You'll then need to drain the hot water tank from the outside.

Trivia point for next spring- If you try and operate the system with the valve in the middle open, you will not get good hot water- cold will run around the water heater and fill the hot line. This is a common situation first use in spring for many people.

Yes what we have is the valve that opens the loop between hot and cold. What we don't have or can't find easily is the shut off for hot and cold in and out of the water heater. So basically there is no way for us to bypass the WH if we chose to add antifreeze. But Hubby is handy so he can add this if we need to later. We are in the High Desert of Southern California so our lows are only about 15-28 degrees with day temps up to 45-60 for the norm....We are just running a small heater for now with all the lines empty and are thinking about adding antifreeze to the sink traps for any water we could not blow out.
Thanks to all for your helpfull information. Now I got to go ask a truck question on the truck forum.... Anybody own a Freightliner with the CAT 3126 ?

Any information you can give... here is what I know...From the seller:
The front seats are air ride soft black leather with full lay back-backs with swivel and lumbar support, the back seat is a full bench type seat, black leather, that folds electrically into a bed. The trim work is red rose wood. There are mood lights in the ceiling. It has a TV and Antenna for the back seat. Doors have electric windows and door locks. The steering wheel tilts and telescopes and it is wrapped in black leather. The exterior rear view mirrors are remote electric adjustable and they are heated.
A CDL Licenses is not required. The engine, 3126 Cat, has an air compressor but it is for the air ride cab, seats, horns, rear suspension, also the park brake is deactivated by air, the transmission does not have a park position which is normal for the older Allison 6 speed transmissions. The truck has two 45 gallon tanks for fuel, additional fuel capacity can be added onto the front of the hauler bed. The brakes are large four wheel heavy duty hydraulic with an engine exhaust brake by PAC Brake, it works very well.
The hauler bed is a full 8' with diamond plate. Per the pics, is the trailer we pulled the most, a semi-wedge nose, the trailer is a Sundowner with full LQ and a slide out, which is also for sale. The trailer is right at 40' from nose to the loading ram. I have pulled square nosed trailers with the truck and had no problems.
All 6 tires are new Continentals with about 1500 mi, on them, cost of about $2,400, they were put on about 13 months ago. The exterior paint has some mild pin stripping, nothing wild. I added LED side running lights to the running boards and the back of the hauler bed, ICC type lights, just dresses it up a little. The truck is a blast to drive, my wife drove it with the trailer loaded with horses and she was only 5' tall. You set up high and get very good visibility much better than any dually. It turns around shorter than anything you may have ever driven. In a tight slow turn the truck turns sharp enough the trailer will back-up. I wanted the truck for better longevity and the heavy duty part, it is better than any dually you can buy.
So that is all I know. I think the asking price is decent and the pictures show it to be in great shape... I don't know how long it has been sitting, his wife passed away last year so I can only assume at least that long. Will we need to take it to have service before bring it home (20 Hours)?
I cannot find any bluebook value, or reviews on this truck.... So any feedback would be helpfull.

A couple years back a good friend gave $50k for a '99 FL60, 3126-E Cat (300hp), Allison, Sportchassis conversion and 50k miles. I really don't know much about the pricing.
