We were camping this past weekend & temperature dipped down to freezing overnight & we had ice on the buckets in the morning. We always camp where there is no electric and sometimes as long as a week at a time. While the newer LQ's are great, they all contemplate you having electric/generator to run the AC, electronic frig, microwave, and heater w/blowers. Those blowers can really run the batteries down fast & although we have a generator, its a pain to run it all the time. We have a small portable catalytic heater which we can run off a 20 lb propane tank but would like to mount something permanant on the wall. We are looking at the Olympian Catalytic heater and well as the Pro Com blue flame and/or infrared ceramic heaters which do not need any electric or battery power and was wondering if anyone has installed any of these and their recommendations, pro & con. It appears the Pro Com meets the NASI standards & has an automatic shut-off for oxygen depletion & a thermostat but you should still keep a window cracked. I guess I'm dating myself but I can remember when our truck camper had a radiant heater built in but vented to the outside, a piezo light fridge & the only thing we needed our batteries for were the lights and the water pump! Any advice or input will be greatly appreciated.

We primitive camp every year for two weeks out west. We only run our generator when I need to run the microwave and then about 4 hours to keep the deep freeze frozen. We have run the propane heater every night and we do not have any problem with the batteries going down. Just trying to figure out why your batteries are running down.

We have a 10' s/w and the heater is located under the frig which is just in front of the bathroom. Heat coming out of bathroom vent is just fine but other vent is in front under step and facing rear & doesn't produce much heat so blowers keep running to get it hot enough for thermostat to shut off. Line runs from the heat box behind the drawers, under the corner sink cabinet and into the step. Since no one else seems to have a problem, we decided to take it apart and found a hole in the flex tubing and now throwing more heat so, hopefully, that will solve the problem. Should heat up faster and not continue to run so long. Thanks for your input.

When I first got my LQ trailer, I thought the thermostat was bad because it would just run forever and get too hot.
I discovered that you can pop of the cover of the thermostat and adjust the cycle time. Mine was set to about 12 - 15 minutes so I moved it down to 3 and it is just right!
