I recently had to replace the electric jack on my LQ trailer. The motor, gears and jack itself were shot. The trailer is 4 years old. I questioned the RV dealer about why it had given out, he had no answers for me. However, when one of the mechanics was helping me hitch up, I asked him some questions and he told me not to raise the jack until the motor quit, that puts the gears in a bind. I had never been told this, and I'm guessing this is what caused the motor to wear out, as I did in fact, raise the jack until the motor quit. Can anyone give me any more advice on this?

He's right...the mechanic that is. You've run the jack up until it runs out of travel and stalls the motor. Can't imagine the over-amperage condition that caused, the torque applied to the gears, that maybe weren't designed for that amount.......and that's why it's shot.
