I bought one in April, and took it camping the next day. Although I don't haul very often, I do haul to the hill country and so far it has done fine for me. I bought the biggest crewcab.. (crewmax I think it's called) with a shortbed and only have a bumper pull (@3000-35000 lbs).. i have been watching HTW for that perfect GN w/ LQ or weekend package at the right price.. I plan on using an offset hitch for shortbed use.  As far as driving it as a truck goes... I traded a Landcruiser in on this truck, and so far cannot tell much difference in the ride.. the truck is smooth, with good acceleration and is HUGE inside!.  My son can stand upright in the back.  I do wish it had more storage areas like the dodge's do, but it has been a very good truck so far.

I have a 2010 Tundra double cab (4 door) that I have been using to tow a 2-horse gooseneck trailer for the past year. The truck tows the trailer easily; good acceleration and braking.

The truck has the 5.7L engine and six speed automatic transmission with the trailer package. Ratings are 10300 lbs. maximum tow weight and 16,000 lbs. GCWR. I installed a Tekonsha P3 brake controller and a B&W gooseneck hitch.

The trailer is a 1997 Shoop constructed of steel and FRP. The trailer weighs 3500 lbs. empty and GVWR is 7000 lbs. It has 4-wheel electric brakes.

As far as towing gooseneck type trailers, the first vehicle limitation that you will probably bump up against is the truck's payload rating. Goosenecks typically run 15% to 25% of total trailer weight on the hitch. I have measured my hitch weight and am OK with my truck and trailer. The truck payload rating is the GVWR - the actual truck weight (including people and cargo). For my truck that is 7100 lbs. - about 5600 lbs (I have not weighed it yet) = about 1500 lbs. I think a larger gooseneck trailer, say with living quarters, could exceed the maximum payload rating.

For more information about towing with a Tundra take a look at:

There are many towing-related threads on that site. Good luck with your purchase and be sure to get a truck with the trailer towing package.
