What do you think of ponies as pack animals.  I have two arab-shetland crosses (12-2 and 13-1, 5 and 6 yo).  The 12-2 is shorter legged and stocky, but she is unflappable.  The 13-1 is very arabianish (3/4 arabian) and very athletic, with a good mind, too.

What would you think of using one of them as a pack animal.

Why not?  Just keep the weight in line with their size.

All of my horse know how to pack and take their turn at it.

Thanks.  I think I'll work on getting that going.  Both (but especially the 13.1) would love it, and there wouldn't be a need for him to carry much weight really.  We still use our backpacking gear, so just some of the horse items - and just some more experience for them.
