I have a guy from work that asked me about renting my 16ft bp stock trailer to take some stuff to FL.from MD. I know that I would have some kind of paperwork stating that if he wrecks the trailer he replaces it. But what kind of rate should I charge for the rental of it...? Should I ask for a deposit on the trailer in the event he does wreck it. Any suggestions are appreciated......

Just my opinion but I would let him rent a trailer from U-Haul. If you charge $200-300 bucks I don't think it would be worth the risk and wear on your trailer. If you charge over $500 he will probably think you are screwing him. I see ad on Craigslist where people want to rent a stock trailer for a weekend and always think if I charged enough to make it worthwhile then they would most likely think I am crazy.

Ditto on the uhaul. If your trailer breaks down to no fault of theres you are responsible for getting it like Uhaul would do. Besides your insurance probably doesn't cover you renting it. Do not let friends drive drunk and do not rent them your trailer.

I had who I thought were very good friends talk me into borrowing my LQ for a weekend. They were considering buying one and he wanted to prove to his wife how great it would be if they had one. Well a weekend turnned into a week. Needless to say I was fuming and when they finally got back with it i had to go get it. After that little excursion I had to have my axles realigned and replace two tires. Than they had the nerve to say I owed them for the batteries they replaced. When they borrowed it I told them the batteries were going to need to be replaced, but they said they would do it in exchange for the use since I wasn't goin to charge them. Needless to say the friendship didn't surrive. Never again!

With few exceptions, most people will not treat your belongings as well as you will. You should expect to have the trailer returned in a poorer condition, than when it left your property. If you expect some damage, whether light or major, you will be delighted if it is returned in pristine condition.
Have in writing, the fact that the renter is responsible for all damages to the trailer and tires, for the actual costs including repair labours and down time if it costs you money.
It's a bad scene, this, and I would recommend you not renting your equipment.
I seen it at a show last week and you could not believe how bad one side and the rear door was dented up from a horse kicking inside. The paint was flaking off on the outside in patches as big as your hand.... Wonder if the renter had to pay extra for the damage to the trailer....? I think these pictures were taken when it was new. It now lookd like it has been beaten from the inside with an axe!!!
I would never rent my trailers, trucks, tractors, dog, pigs, etc., nor would I loan them to "kinfolks"!!!
