Headed out to Utah's San Rafael Swell country.

After we turned off the main hiway, We didn't see another person all day.  This area has lots of tourist from April thru the summer. It's popular with hikers, atvs Mountain bikers etc. But thsi time of year it's pretty deserted.

We rode down Wild Horse Wash and up severa canyon.

As you turn out of the wash, The canyon walls start to climb and get narrower.

And if you don't pick the right canyon, They eventually just close right in on you

It's great to be alive and to enjoy the out of doors.

Wow!! Great pictures.   Looks like you had fun.   What was the temp there.  I see there is still snow on the ground.  Makes for a chilly ride huh?

It was 28-29* when we left the truck around 10am.  It was 32* when we got back in the truck at 5pm.  It probably got a little warmer during the mid day.  It really didn't feel bad. There was only a couple of times when a little breeze crept up that it cooled off.   The over cast clouds broke up a little in the afternoon. So we all got sunburned faces.  Sun reflecting off the snow made it fee pretty nice.

I had my chinks on to help keep my legs warm, But just a pair of jeans under that.

One of the reasons we head down to the this part of the state in Early spring, is because it usually does not have snow. I mean it's a desert. That kinda implies the lack of moisture. But this has been a crazy winter and the southern part of Utah has really gotten a lot of snow.

It's easy to have good pictures when you ride in breathtaking scenry. And of course delete all the blurred photos from a nervous horse that won't stand still.

This is Crack Canyon. This is as far as the horses go.

Another one of my friends who went with me.

Well there are a few signs of man around.  It's not totally unmarked. Somebody built a corral at one time.  Probably a rancher to hold extra horses when he rounds up his cattle on the grazing permit.

Glad you enjoy the photos.  This week we stayed closer to home, Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake is only 20 minutes away.  When we got out there Saturday, there probably was 30 horse trailers in the parking lot.  I'm sure there were over a 100 horses along the trail that day.  But you spread those out over a 14 trail, and it doesn't seem like too many people.

A view from the Island looking back across the great salt lake at the Wasatch mountains.

Got to see a few buffalo

It's just a cheap Kodak Point and shoot digital camera.  Cost all of about $70

I loose or break too many cameras to buy a good one.  I keep them in front shirt pocket and a little crowhop from the horse or a stumble while crossing a river and the camera is gone bye bye.

Yes it is all public.  In fact 74% of Utah is Public Land.
