I just brought a 05 F350 Crew Cab was wondering whats the best hitch and it has a brake controller in it was wondering if they usally work with horse trailer that ford put in..

i sold my 7.3l f350 to buy it any information would be great on the 6.0L owners

My best advise to you is, buy that 1999 F350 7.3 back from whom ever you sold it to.... Good luck with your new to you 6.0 Powerstroke.

So far as the brake controller, I have a 2010 GMC with the intergrated brake controller and it works like a champ. Never had any dealing with the Ford controller.

Some people never have any trouble with them, but alot of people do. Cracked EGR coolers and cracked oil coolers are the main problems.... How many miles on your 2005? Keep on top of your oil changes....

Got a 99 f-350 with 90'000 miles on it and a 05 1/2  F-250 with 98'000 on it not gonna comment and jinx myself.  However the later 6.0's did have some of the bugs worked out.

Hi Jessica.  I have an 05 F250 with 160K on her. Pull steel 3H GN loaded with no problems. Love the built in brake control.

The 6.0 has plenty of power, but there were problems with the early 03-04 models. In 05 they started changes that hopefully are incorporated into your model.  I've had a few problems (EGR valve and Fuel Control Injection Moduel), but over all I am very happy with the truck. Keep the oil fresh every 5k, drain the water from the fuel line and drive it like u stole it. Seriously, dont baby it. Lots of great info here http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum107/

The 6.0L will never be remembered as Fords greatest engine.  They are prone to several failures, But once fixed they seem to run just as well as any of the other diesel engines out there.

I had two of them, A very early 2003 and 2006. I keep my trucks about 100,000 miles, So I can't personally speak for repairs beyond that. The only problems I had with the 6.0 was the FCIM and the HPOP. I also replaced 4 of the glow plugs in the 2006 engine.

The head studs seem to be more of a problem for those who chipped or programed their trucks. Leave your truck at it's stock horsepower, change the oil every 5000 miles and drive it.  If you have one of the common problems, ( FCIM, HPOP, EGR Cooler, Oil Cooler)  Fix them and know that the truck will be good for a long time after.  I learned that the glow plugs cost about $25 each, But the service call to get into the bank where they are located is $300.  If I every had to replace another glow plug, I'd have them do all four on that cyclinder bank while they had it open. Rather than going back in every 10,000 miles to replace them one at a time.
