Trying to plan a horse camping vacation for next year at Christmas time. We are deep in the cold winter of the north here and would like to trailer our horses to someplace warmer (but not too hot). Don't think we'd be interested in either coast.

Need to plan way ahead to keep our mounts from getting too long haired next fall!

I would be concerned that if your horses got acclimated to warmer weather like say at least 50 plus degrees then could be rough on them when you go back home a week later when in the midwest it could be below zero. Especially if you don't want them to have  a winter coat. If you aren't going to the coast you gotta go south.

Anyway you can't predict the weather as in Ok and Tx it can be mild or warm. This year it is colder than average there.

You can be a snowbird and visit Arizona like many other folks from northern climes. Plenty of places to ride there in the winter months.

St George Utah, which is on the Arizona/Utah border has wonderful riding in the area. Todays temps are 54*.  So it's much cooler than Phoenix or Tucson AZ. And yet its not as cold as northern Utah.  So even if your horses are haired up a bit, they wouldn't be as uncomfortable as being in 70* temps in Phoenix.

Just decide how warm or cold you want and drive that far south.
