Just bought a 2000 Exiss GN 3H, no LQ. Previous owner says it needs to be grounded, so hooked up to the truck, for the lights to work. When we looked at it at her place, the interior lights in DR, mid tack and horse area all worked, though very dim. They each have their own switch. When we picked it up, none of them work - hooked up to truck, truck running.
Which wire do they run off of as all the running lights, brake, tail, signals all work. It does not have loading lights at the rear.
I would think it was something on our truck, a fuse out, if it did work with her truck? But a friend said no since everything else works fine.

Your truck plug could be wired differently than the previous owner.  They should work off of the center wire on a 6 prong hookup,

Your truck should have a separate fuse for the truck's "hot" wire, that supplies 12V to the trailer. On a Ford SD, it is a 20 amp fuse, under the hood just above the driver's knees. If this fuse is blown, you will have no power to the trailer. This can be checked at your truck's plug with a multi meter. On my Ford diesel, the motor has to be running to get voltage. On other trucks it sometimes has voltage when the ignition is selected "on".

If the lights previously worked but were dim, I would take the plug apart and check the screw/wire connection on each pin. You may have a bad connection on the ground wire which effects the voltage to each light. The trailer's ground wire might be open, and the trailer is grounding through the hitch with a poor connection. Clean the plug contacts and add some dielectric grease to the pins. A poor ground wire will also effect an erratic operation of the brakes.

If the ground wire is properly terminated at the plug, check where it is affixed to the frame. Many times the ring terminal will corrode and fail, under a steel bolt, secured through an aluminum frame member. A new terminal may have to be attached and fastened with a new clean bolt and dielectric grease.

Here's some info on various truck and trailer plug wiring:  http://www.horsetrailerworld.com/home/wiring.asp
