Headed out to 4-J this fall and was wondering what are some trails and points of interest that I should see while staying there. Does anyone have a PDF of the trails too?

From the website, I can't tell how the stalls open or how big they are. Are the shavings provided pine or mixed hardwoods?

I am so used to Big Creek, but decided to try another place this year. Hope we are not disappointed.

Sorry for the duplicate post in the Horse section, but it wouldn't let me delete it.

Stalls are well kept, but small.  When I went in July, they ran out of shavings and we had to pirate some from empty stalls.  There was still a lot of storm damage and many of the usual trails were closed off.  Go up to cabbage patch, or the turkey cabin/cabin in the sky.  Take a canoe trip, it's nice.  There's also a great saddle shop on route K.  You go right by it as you head towards the camp.  If you break any equipment, he does a first class job repairing it.

Thanks for the info Amanda. Should I bring my own firewood, or do they provide it for free or a charge? Would really rather get it there.. once less thing to pack.

Yes they have firewood, they usually drive a truck around on a daily basis.  It's expensive though for the amount you get.  But, it is a convenience....

Just got back from the 4-J ride. All I can say is that 4-J was AWESOME!! Food was fabulous and the trails were very nice even though lots of trees were down from the May straight line winds. Stalls were safe although a bit small from our tall horses, but none the less better than some they have stayed in. Met some great people and folks were so friendly to help us find our destinations out on the trails. River was very refreshing after long days ride and my little dog met a friend there too named Pee Wee. We will definately be returning.

Glad you liked it!  I've gone for 5 years in a row (just got my buckle!) but as much as I like it, I'd rather see some other places.  Not sure I'll be going back next year.  It was really neat the first few times, but now that I've ridden most of the trails and seen the sites, I'll probably vacation elsewhere next year.  That's not to say that I won't go back sometime, because the vacation you get for the price is well worth it.  The food IS wonderful.  I think I gain 10lbs from going there!  I always go in July with my saddle club, and the river is REALLY great on those muggy july afternoons.

Glad to hear the good things about 4J. We're heading there in October and it will be our first trip. Hope we have good weather and the trees have some color. So where's the pictures?
