I recently switched to msm and yucca powder from Max Flex pellets for my one mare that has arthritis. I switched to msm and yucca cuz of the cost difference between using Max Flex and msm and yucca..About $26 difference between them... She is not taking the switch to well and won't have any thing to do with her feed now...Is there some secret to get them to adjust to a switch?? Don't want to have to mix it with applesauce and put it in a syringe and give it to her that way. Have already tried to mix it with molasses and applesauce in her feed and she didn't like that either...Should I start out by giving her a little of it and then gradually add a little more each time I fed her to get her used to it??? Any suggestions...

Had the same problem with my mare. I bought some sweet feed, put a little supplement in the sweet feed, and squeezed it with my hands, and put it in the feed box. Then I put a little "nonpolluted" sweet feed over that. Worked well, particularly when I fed her last, while the rest of the horses were happily eating their grain! I gradually added more of the supplement as time went by.

I don't suppiment any of my horses. So maybe my views are not valid.
But I have on occassion had to medicate a horse, and I occassionaly give some electrolytes to horses when I know I will be doing long distance rides. I have used beat pulp as the medium to feed what ever I am adding. I have taught my horses to eat beet pulp. Most don't like it at first, but when the rest of the herd gobbles in down , they soon learn to eat it. And they learn to like it. This time of year, I'd add some fresh apples from the trees around the farm or some carrots from the garden. Once they are eating the Soaked pulp. I can add the other items to the soaked pulp with out the horses turning their nose up. And they seem to remember that they like it, even when I go several months with out feeding it.
