This weekend my a/c didn't seem to be cooling properly.  I recently used the a/c with no problem.  I wonder if the power was strong enough at this particular campsite. What is the easiest to use, cheapest method I can bring along so that I can check for this and avoid damaging my a/c. I have looked through Camping World's catalog and am thoroughly confused!

Go to your local big box home store and get a digital multimeter like this>> http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xnu/R-100585283/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

Set the meter to ac volts and plug the probes into an outlet on the same circuit as the a/c.  Without the a/c running the voltage should be 115 to 125 volts.  When the a/c is running, the voltage should not drop below 115 volts.  If it does, your extension cord is too small for the distance or the campsite supply is weak.

I have one of these and plug it in whenever we hook up at a campground.

It will show the amount of elec. coming in. if you use any elec. appliance such as an AC, coffeepot or microwave you can see if the voltage drops below the green.

I also use a surge protector between the elec. box and the trailer.

Are you using a heavy cord. If you use a long light cord you will have trouble.

Correct...here is a voltage drop calculator based on distance and amps and the results of various gauges of wire...
