Hi,

I wonder if I could solicit some opinions on Silver Star horse trailers.  I am seriously considering a 2004 3h GN with 8 ft. shortwall lq.  Can anyone tell me if I should be aware of specific issues with this year/maker?  I want to  make the right decision 'cause it's too expensive to get it wrong:)

Thanks!

We bought a 1993 Silver Star (new) 3 horse no LQ. We have had not one problem with this trailer. We have replaced tires and brakes. We use this trailer alot.

We have a 2001 Silver Star, Star Lite Supreme 2033MA. Not a minutes trouble with it. Too bad they're not in business anymore. I don't think that would keep me from buying another one if the price was right...

Silver Stars were a "knockoff" of Sundowners.  Built in South Carolina I believe; but I don't know for sure if they are still in business.  Chances are that a 2004 wouldn't have any or much warranty left.

Ahh, the magic question - if the price is right.   I'm digging around trying to figure out what kind of offer to make.  The trailer was used for camping only once and has sat for several years unused.   It appears to have a lot of nice upgrades, i.e. satellite dish, insulated horse box, etc.

We have an 02 Silver Star Star Lite 4h.  Love it.  Heavy duty reinforcing in the floor, nice quality paint and workmanship.  Really like the insulated roof.  Pulls great.  I had to replace the jack, but that's it so far.

Silver Star is a high quality trailer, built as the most expensive trailers of the time. Not in business anymore. Frame on 6" centers, insulated horse area.

No warranty from the factory- like C&C, Bison, Integrity, but you may purchase aftermarket warranty like you can for cars.

I used a 6 Horse Head to Head for transport work for several years- held up well.

Jim Bob, maybe you feel they are a "knockoff" but when it come time that I could buy a new trailer, they were and are the best,,,hands down,,,,my husband checked out all the trailers avaiable at Congress that year, ( the ones I liked, but I didnt feel I knew enough about the manufacturing of them to pick correctly( welds, that sort of thing) he spent most of the time UNDERNEATH the trailers to check out how they were made, I brought the SilverStar home, it is a shame, same as things happening now, that they went out of business

I don't think Jim Bob meant any negativity.  Silver Star is more of an identical twin to Sundowner.  And some say that was the root of their demise.
