How much weight/length can a 3/4 ton Dodge diesel handle?
I am really confused about weights of trailers....what is GWB?
This is an often asked question. The maximum trailer length is limited by state motor vehicle laws. Your truck doesn't care about length. Weight is another subject. The true answer is only from Dodge. It's a multipart answer... They have published a maximum weight limit called Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating. ( some such ) This is the max weight of the combined loaded truck and trailer. Don't exceed this number or bad things start to happen. The second part is the load carrying capacity of the truck or payload. If you have a GN trailer, the hitch weight must not exceed the limits of the tires, axles, springs, etc. This must include ALL the factory options and anything you've put on the truck. Such as the 1/2 cord of firewood and 150 gallon water tank. Again, exceed the ratings and bad things start to happen. As for GWB ... Our former President ? Nothing, I know truck related. You'll have to get the numbers for your truck.

we have a 2500 dodge diesel quad cab and it weighs 7750 with the wife and I and a weekends worth of clothes.According to the door sticker the truck limit is 9000, so we are not far from that empty. We bought a used 3 horse goosneck calico trailer a couple weeks ago and I stopped on the way home and weighed it.gross weight was 12,380 with 8740 being the truck and 3640 being the trailer. I dont remember what the gross capacity is but I should have plenty for a couple of horses and camping stuff.hope thisd helps.

If your gross weight rating is 9000# and with the empty trailer you're at 8740#s, seems like you have 260# before overloading the truck. A single horse in the first stall will add more than 260 pounds to the hitch weight. Even two horses in the rear stalls plus tack might be an overload. Be careful.

we plan to re-weigh with the horses. It was a little disappointing when I started reading numbers after purchase,I didn't realize how little weight a modern quad cab truck can carry,I can pull plenty but technically will probably be over the truck limit.I am well below the axle and tire limits and also have air bags so I feel pretty safe .I will post again after weighing with the horses .Thanks
