I purchased another trailer to be able to fix it up and sell it. It has a litttle surface rust started, and I would like to know what is the best product to stop the rust before I paint it. I have found that alot of steel trailer manufactures do not put any kind of weep holes in the beems that usualy suport the side with drop down windows. I have found that that side (along the beems and inside the beems)will usualy rust faster. should I drill weep holes? This is the third stl trailer I have done and it seems like that is always the side that starts rusting first. any suggestions?

Ospho works well, and you can paint right over it after it has dried. Any area that can trap water will eventually rust. Many people will plug drain holes, thinking that they are a source of leakeage.
How did the roof on your last project turn out? Did the Pit Bull use lipstick or were you able to resolve your problem?

The trailer turned out great! we ended up patching the week spots (what you suggested) and coating the whole top with a spray on hardner from work. It was my first plumbing unit. we have ben to a couple of shows with it and people cant believe it is a home custom. I will try to get my daughter to put the picks up. This new trailer is a Logan Coach, It is in real good condition except for the beams coming down from the windows, I don't want to just throw a paint job over the rust so I am trying to do it right. the rust is not all the way through but I dont know if I should just replace the beams or what? should I put weap holes in it? by the way thank you for all your help, Happy Easter!

How is the water getting into the area where you want to put the weep holes?
If you can stop the source of the water, Maybe you won't need the weep holes. Is there some caulking missing around the window or other type of crack that allows the moisture to enter?

I believe it was coming in along the roof line Thier is no awning belt rail to differ the rain water so it takes the easiest corse. where the windows are they stick out about a 1/8 of a inch so the water travels along and runs down the inside of the windows. then down into the frameing tube then it just sits their and rusts. so if I run at least a awning rail with down spouts on both ends and some better rubber seal. I might be able to re rout the water. I still am going to drill weap holes at the bottom of the tubbing. I went ahead and replaced all the metal along the bottom and replaced the tubing brace running along the windows. It will be painted this weakend.
