hi
i put a tarp on my exiss trailer this winter so it would not leak in the living quarters. pulled the tarp off sunday to find that it rubbed off the paint in spots....can i get this fixed? can i touch it up with paint? it also rubbed the top but i am hoping with an acid wash will help that....what do any of you think.

I think tarps have also destroyed the paint on a lot of cars, boats and RV's. The grits gets in between the tarp and vehicle and acts as an abrasive. If it were mine I would pull it to a body shop and see what they recommend.

Many aluminum trailer manufacturers purchase their metal stock pre painted. To accurately reproduce this colour will be difficult, as there are probably a hundred shades of white. I don't know if your trailer manufacturer offers touch up paints, that may be one source.
An other is an automotive store that supplies paints to body shops. They usually have computers which can generate a formula, that will colour match most paints, and can do so at curbside.
The colour can usually be matched using this process, but getting an exact match of the finish may be difficult when spot painting. The acid wash will not remove chafe marks from aluminum. It may however, remove some discolourations.

thanks, it has alot of black streaks on it & other wear. i have never had it acid washed in 10 years. i am sure it needs it.
the rub marks are not bad, but i notice them. i have 2 marks in the front corners that i notice the most. the few on the sides look like hay bag marks. i think i will call the exiss dealership in ohio & see what they think also about touch up paint.....if not i guess no big deal.

Regardless of brand, right now is a time to be glad it is an aluminum trailer, as rub marks are bad enough, but at least rust isn't going to add insult to injury!

well i am not going to bad mouth exiss. yes my roof does leak in one spot & that is why i cover it but the rub marks are my fault for covering it. my trailer is 10 years old & am still very happy with it, i just wish i could redo the spots to cover them up. if not no bigger it is still my trailer, it is paid off and i still get to the show that i want to.
thanks for all your help, i am going to call my dealer & see if there is touch up paint that i can buy.

You should be able to cure any leaks with some caulking. It's not a difficult application on an aluminum roof and relatively inexpensive. It's much easier to accomplish than installing a tarp, and will last many years.
