Hi folks.  New here.  Hoping I can get some help on selecting a trailer that will last and is in my price range.

In November 2008, I bought a used 1995 Wrangler 3-H slant for $1800, with every intention of fixing it up some.

It has some surface rust in the inside and some other rusty areas outside, but not too bad.  The biggest downfall is the weight - it's a heavy sucker!  Anyway, after some soul searching and discussions with hubby, we decided this isn't the trailer we want so I am selling it to get something newer.  I already have a sale pending.

Now, we are looking to go the route of a newer trailer and have found some 2 horse BP for $6000 or less -- specifically the Corn Pro and Miley brands.  I was hoping that I could get some opinions on these makes (pros vs cons) and perhaps see if there are any better brands out there around the same price range.  It's all so confusing and time consuming, so any personal experiences and opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks much!

Valerie

Here's some previous info on Cornpro:

Most people that have owned them, like them. They're very well built, track exceptionally well and with the new paint systems, don't rust like the older ones. Good value for the money. There's a CornPro dealer not too far from you in Ohio if you're interested.

Valerie... What type of a vehicle were you using to pull "big red"? (Chevy, Ford, Dodge, 2500, 250, 350, 3500, etc???)

Thanks for linking to that thread.  I tried to do some searches before I posted but didn't find what I was looking for.

I've also just pulled up some info on a couple other brands .... Moritz, Titan, and Valley.  My hubby would prefer to go aluminum vs steel because of the weight....but I'm not so sure about that.  We also want something that we can open up completely (fold back partitions, etc.) to have an open stock trailer for hauling motorcycles, hay, etc.

Does anyone have any comments on aluminum vs wood floor?

I just really want to get the best bang for our buck and something that will last (not rust out in a year).  I am just getting back into horses and probably wouldn't use the trailer more than a dozen times a year (mainly for short hauls to go trail riding or a local show).

You will have trouble finding an aluminum trailer under $6K unless it is fairly old.  Titan is a well built trailer (look up previous threads) and you can find a new base model for close to $6K.  Wood floors will last a long time if you clean under the mats after every use.

Our Corn Pro was a 3 horse stock combo. The forward bulkhead and stall dividers could all be opened or even removed, which left a clear floor space from the front to the rear; a distance of 18'. The forward bulkhead separated the horse compartment from the dressing/tack area.

The trailer weighed about 3400#. In the mid 90's, Corn Pro redesigned the construction, so you'll have to check on the new weights. Most 3h BP trailers will weigh at least as much, regardless of whether it's steel or aluminum.

I carried many things in our trailer besides horses. The largest was a tractor with a front loader and brush hog attached, and on another occasion a Vis-A Vis carriage.

Here's some info on wood flooring:

Another brand to look at is Calico. A dealer here in Minnesota, Denny's Trailer Sales, has them listed from about $3,900 to $7,800. I know he is good to work with because I have bought two trailers from him. He also does a lot of online business.
