Due to the increasing popularity of the Kentucky Horse Park as a site for national, regional and local dog shows, it has gained a reputation as the unofficial "Dog Show Capital of the Midwest."

The following dog shows will be held at the park in 2009. The list also includes several horse shows which will include local animal rescue organizations offering adoptable dogs and cats:

• Feb 15 Dog Tracking - tracking dogs from across the country will compete
• Mar 27-29 Bluegrass Classic Arabian Show (including adoptable pets)
• Apr 23-26 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event (including adoptable pets)
• May 1-3 Gypsy Cob and Drum Horse Classic (including adoptable pets)
• May 17 High Hope Steeplechase (including Terrier Races and adoptable pets)
• May 22-24 Kentucky High School Invitation Rodeo (including adoptable pets)
• May 30-31 Bluegrass German Shepherd Dog Show – working dogs will compete
• May 30-31 Ohio Valley Stock Dog Trials - watch the Border Collies herding sheep!
• Jun 3-6 Saluki Dog Club of America National Specialty Dog Show – hundreds of slinky, exotic Salukis from across the country will compete
• Jun 6-7 Kentucky Horse Park Family Fun Fest (will include adoptable pets)
• Jun 16-21 MidSouth Pony Club Mega Rally (will include adoptable pets)
• Jun 24-28 Silverama Region 14 Arabian Championship (will include adoptable pets)
• Jun 27 John Henry Memorial Equine Adoption Fair (adoptable horses and a few dogs and cats)
• Jul 18-19 International All Breed Canine Association Show – dog show featuring dozens of breeds
• Aug 27-31 Bluegrass Classic Dog Show – more than 10,000 dogs will compete
• Sep 5-6 Kentucky Horse Park’s Pet Adoption Days (featuring adoptable pets from local rescues)
• Oct 6-11 National Recreational Carriage Drive (including adoptable pets)
• Oct 23-25 PMHA Morab Nationals and Futurity (including adoptable pets)

All dog shows and most of the horse shows are included with park admission, except the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, High Hope Steeplechase, High School Invitational Rodeo and Bluegrass Classic Dog Show.
