Hi all,

I found a used BP Keifer built genesis online that I like the look of.  It's several states away, and it's bigger than I wanted (3H vs 2H) but has pretty much everything else that I wanted except drop windows on the butt side... PLUS, It's significantly cheaper than the 2H 4 star I've been custom-constructing (that I haven't ordered yet). The difference in the purchase price would  cover traveling expenses to and from.  My question is this; can drop windows be installed as an after-market feature?  More importantly, can it be done without looking like crap and without leaking/corroding @ the window frame?

Just curious

Leslie

Leslie, The newer Genesis are built with a rumpwall window that also has a folding window available. Meaning that by simply purchasing the entire assembly it can bolt in with no cutting or fabrication. You will have to fit holdbacks to latch it in the open position. But without more details on the Genesis you are looking at, I can't tell you for sure they'll fit, but I believe they will.

I dont know at all.

But I guess I would ask yourself, how often are you really going to use the drops on the rear? On our last trailer, I never even used the drops on the face side. Just a thought. Good luck which ever way you go :)

Here's some drop down windows... guess you'll have to call for prices.

If it has 19"x53" windows on the butt side, you may be able to replace them with drops like the ones "Shadow" uses.

I have a 2003 Kiefer X-380 that came with the sliding windows on the butt side.  I called Kiefer with my serial number and window sizes and they were able to send me the correct ones.  Take out the sliding windows and the drop windows fit right in the same opening.  Comes complete with the window, inside frame that holds them in and the hold down sockets for the open position.  Were about $200.00 each.  You may find them cheaper but at least I knew these would fit.  I use them most of the time to ensure adequate ventilation.  Good luck.

the trailer I found is on usedtrailers.com... ya'll see what you think.. It's a 2005 3 horse bumper pull Keifer built genesis..Ad ID # 42188... I'll try, but not sure if I can attach a link.. Don't really know how.. I've been looking for a 2 horse b/c of weight and towability, I rarely ever tow more that one horse.. When i DO haul 2, it is my 850-900 lb mare, and my daughter's 600lb pony.  Would like to use the 3rd stall for camping gear, hay, etc when camping... Someday I'll upgrade my towing power and the 3 horse might come in handy.. On a down note.. I am a TERRIBLE backer, so the longer unit might be harder for me to manage..

Just a little note about your comment about being a terrible backer. Actually...the longer the unit the eaiser it will be to back. Just thought you might like to know that.
