Firring strips are mentioned alot when people talk about installing paneling in their LQ's.  I understand what they are but I'm wondering if they're always neccessary?  Can I just glue the paneling or wallboard directly to the metal trailer supports as long as there is a space between the insulation and the paneling?

I think the furring strips provide the airspace necessary to give a good barrier between the metal and the paneling.  I did a big tackroom on my old gooseneck this way and it had no condensation problems at all once it was well insulated, furring strips attached and paneling installed.  Personally, I would not attach the panenling directly to the metal walls.
