I have 2 horse slant load, 15 foot shortwall Elite and was wondering if a slight popping noise on the aluminum floor in the horse compartment is normal?
There is no pitting to the floor. When I step on the floor in the first stall compartment about 10 inches from the manager and 16 inches from the walk[thru door, the floor makes a popping noise. Basically where a horse stands with the front feet. I don't have a pawer.
When looking from under the trailer, the floor doesn't appear bowed.
Never had aluminum floor trailer before and am a bit concerned.

The Popping is from when the floor was welded to the cross members and the heat from welding distored the floor sheeting.. Just take a fair size Hammer and hit it down then it will not pop..That is what we do to them if it bothers you.....

Elite builds there trailers with marine grade aluminum flat sheets welded to I beams on there flooring.. The heat will distore the flat sheet a little some times it goes up and some times it goes down. I have seen floors in trucks and cars have a poping in them as well...

As CBU has stated, the sheet flooring was probably tensioned by the welding. When the horse places any weight between the floor joists, the flooring oil cans and makes the noise you hear. If your flooring were constructed of plank extrusions and made that noise, it would indicate a joint failure between the planks.
It sounds as if you have an annoyance and not a structural problem.

I have seen it do the same thing in other trailers with the same construction we take a fair sized hammer or small sledge and bust it real good and pop it down and its not a issue any longer.....

Thanks for the replies. Glad to know this is a normal sound. I'm sold yet on these aluminum floors.... seems like more work than wood. Wish I had rumbar!
