  | We have an Onan 4000 generator that had an engine failure. After calling the local Cummins Onan dealer, we were told they would not remove the generator from the top of the horsetrailer, we either had to take to an RV dealer or remove the generator from the roof of the trailer ourselves. Mechanic husband was able to disconnect and remove the generator with the tractor/loader. Based on the manufaturer's warranty, the generator was to still be under the two year warranty period. The dealer diagnosed, and told us due to the generator being used on the roof of a horse trailer, the generator is not covered under warranty, claiming fuel starvation. Needless, to say, after a somewhat of a battle, the dealer did cover the repairs under warranty. Less than six months later, the generator shut down again, with what we suspect is the same valve issues. Has anyone had engine issues with Onan generators? Did Cummins Onan warranty the engine issues? Did you experience issues with warranty coverage due to being used on a horse trailer? |

Location: Vermont | Cummins/Onan dealers sell an inline pump for about $100 that is set to handle this lift. Most dealers use them to install generators on the roof. The part # is A029F891

Location: Lawrence KS | I recently spoke with Onan and they say " a roof mounted generator is an improper install " I recently spoke with Cimarron and they said "  We install them this way every day "
?There is going to be more of this to come apparently.  |

Location: Shawnee, Oklahoma | We install Onan's on the roof of many brands of horse trailers and we ALWAYS use 2 fuel pumps.  in 14 years we have never had a problem similar to the one you incurred.  Outback and Outlaw use the same install parameters, as would any reputable LQ company or shop.  That's where I would start, and then get it properly plumbed as someone else said.  Good luck!  Cindy |

Location: Harrisburg, OR | Cummins/Onan sent out a service bulletin on November 1, 2014 that basically stated they would no longer honor warranty on generators that were installed on the hayracks.  The bulletin stated this would apply to any gensets installed on the roof after May 15, 2015.  Having said all that though, we have yet to have any warranty issues declined by Cummins service centers though.          |
