Here's a 12' Calico 2H straight load with rear ramp and saddle racks in the nose. Whether it will be your only trailer or your runabout when you don't feel like lugging the big trailer around, this Calico has a lot to offer. We tend to think of it as the big little trailer. It's compact on the outside with good space inside.

With the livestock air gaps, this may look like a basic trailer, but it's not a stripped price leader that needs a load of expensive options to be useful. We equip our Calicos to be ready to use as you'll see shortly.

In this 12' body length, it's easy to handle, and at a touch over 2400 lbs. empty, you don't need a large vehicle to pull it. However, that same 12' body offers a warmblood-length stall and about 5' of space forward of the chest bars. (Even though the stall length is there for warmbloods, we ordered this one in 7' body height. We're not marketing this particular one as a warmblood model, but if you'd like this trailer in 7'6" height, Calico will build it.)

Since there's good room forward, we specified a pair of optional Saddle Boss saddle racks (they're easily removable) and bridle hooks. They come with one escape door as standard, but this one has escape doors on both sides for greater convenience and easier access to your tack. This compact Calico offers many of the features of a dressing room trailer without the length and weight.

This one is equipped with a spring-assisted ramp with curtain doors above. (If you prefer a step-up, they'll do it that way as well.)

Getting back to our policy of equipping a Calico to be ready-to-use, here are some convenience and safety options we typically specify: (They're on this trailer and included in the price shown.)

Brakes on both axles (brakes on one axle are standard; brakes on both axles are a low-cost investment for greater safety)
Floor mats
Tiebacks on doors (if you've had a door blow closed, you'll appreciate tiebacks, and these are the good kind that hold even in a breeze)
Interior dome light
Spare tire
Greasable hinges (Each has a grease fitting and installs as a complete assembly; there's better alignment than the multi-piece standard hinges.)

The stall divider, post and head divider are removable. You can use this trailer as a 2H straight load as shown here or remove the stall hardware totally and use it as a stock trailer. With the 5' space forward of the chest bars, there's plenty of working space (and/or space to secure a tack trunk). Also, please note that this trailer has upgraded longitudinal tubes on the stall divider. They're larger than the standard tubes and can stand up to rougher use. It's one of those little details that make our Calicos just a bit nicer than many you'll see.

Smooth-riding torsion axles are standard, as are 16" Load Range E radial tires. You'll find that tire on 3 & 4 horse trailers from many manufacturers. Touches like these make a Calico an affordable trailer, not a "cheap" one. We also like Calico's rounded nose, which offers less drag than a flat front. (Looks better, too, in our opinion.)

The nice touches extend to the finish as well. Calico's multi-step prep, prime & paint process produces a glossy finish. For quite some time, they've been caulking seams to minimize the chance of rust formation in areas where it's hard to get paint to penetrate. In 2016, they took things a step further and went to a 2-part urethane paint with hardener. In our experience, their acrylic enamel held up well, but Calico decided that urethane's tough but flexible finish would provide an even better ownership experience. The subject trailer color is Pueblo (we think of it as metallic tan) with brown pinstripes.

We took on Calico trailers in 2008. We wanted to offer an affordable line of new trailers, but we also wanted to offer an alternative to used trailers. At the time (and still), we found that we were turning down a lot of used trailers because of poor condition. Several things drew us to Calico. They've been in business since 1983. They're an experienced and respected manufacturer, with a reputation for making honest, affordable trailers. They'll build straight loads and slant loads in a variety of lengths and body heights. They build bumper pulls and goosenecks, the latter in a variety of nose styles. With or without ramp. With livestock air gaps or with windows (sliders or drop downs). And much more.

Calico is very accommodating. It's easy to do a custom trailer and you'll likely be pleasantly surprised at the price. And on top of it all, it's a NEW trailer. The body is solid and looks nice. The floor is solid. The brakes and lights work. And it can have the room and features you expect in a modern trailer.
