This well-kept, easy-to-handle Shadow Stable Mate 1H Slant just came in for us to show as a private sale. As we looked it over and took measurements, it occurred to us that a good way to sum it up is "Big on the inside and small on the outside."
If you need to transport only one horse, this could be the trailer for you. And if you're uneasy about hauling someone else's horse, this one gives you a no-explanation-required excuse!
By our tape, the body length is a compact 10.5' feet, yet the stall is a generous 56" at the butt wall and a touch over 8.5' at the head wall. Considering that quite a few slant stalls have an offset of 40" or less, that's a large stall! And there's a swing-wall dressing room as well. While we're talking dimensions, body height is 7' and body width is 6'. A 6' body width is popular with folks who travel on tight back roads with little or no shoulder.
Thanks to those sensible dimensions and an aluminum frame & skin, the empty weight is 2000 lbs. You don't need a huge vehicle to pull this one. (Per the Tire & Loading label on the trailer, 7000 lb. GVWR minus 5000 lb. payload equals 2000 lb. empty weight.)
The floor is of pressure-treated wood planks, a well-proven design that offers durability and more cushion than an aluminum floor. (Just so there's no confusion, it has rubber floor mats as well.) And while we're talking materials for the comfort of your horse, this one has polymer kick panels all around. They're smooth and tough and absorb kicks well. Other horse area amenities include a drop feed window on the head wall and an interior light. Two air gaps each on the butt wall and rear gate contribute to good natural light and ventilation. The rear gate latch has an integrated lock.
At the dressing room, there's a lockable door with large slider window with screen. The contoured saddle rack is easily removable and is mounted high to keep it out of the way. There's a row of 6 bridle hooks, an interior light and the spare tire is stored inside, out of the weather and out of sight of ne'er-do-wells when the trailer's closed up. With the swinging wall, you can easily open up the interior to haul a load of hay, small tractor or what have you.
Mention of the spare reminds us that 5 new radial tires were just mounted. (In fact, the tires are so new that we took these initial shots on a good-light day before the new tires were mounted.) For the record, while Shadow likes to put a large "Rides on Goodyear" decal on the back of each trailer, this one's now riding on brand new Load Range D radials by Carlisle, also a well-established brand.
Also worth noting is that while the trailer was at the shop getting new tires, it was run through Maryland state inspection (and passed of course), so it's ready to go!
We invite you to stop by and see this very clean, easy to handle Shadow Stable Mate 1H slant. We don't expect it to be on the lot for long! Private Sale on display at Traveled Lane.
