Description: Traveled Lane Trailers, Inc.

We took this very clean Brenderup Baron TC in trade recently. In addition to having the desirable InstaTack dressing room, this one has the optional head divider. We’re showing it with its regular butt bars, which give two stalls of the same width, but this trailer also has offset butt bars so you have the option of carrying one horse in a wide wedge-shaped stall. As a Baron, it’s sized for two horses to 18 hands and as a Brenderup, it’s designed to be towed safely by smaller-than-typical tow vehicles. We installed a new floor of High Density Polyethylene panels in the horse area, had 5 new Extra Load Radials mounted and it’s passed Maryland state inspection, so this well-equipped and updated Baron is ready to go.

In addition to being a very thoughtfully-equipped trailer, a Brenderup is designed to be towed safely by smaller-than-typical tow vehicles. If the vehicle has at least 130 horsepower, a wheelbase in excess of 96 .5 inches and the ability to handle 250 lbs. loaded tongue weight (as opposed to 500 lbs. tongue weight or more for most domestic trailers), it meets Brenderup’s minimum tow vehicle requirements. Here in the States, most folks tow their Brenderups with small SUVs that have at least 200 HP and a wheelbase in the 105 to 110” range, but it’s nice to know that even a vehicle of modest specifications can tow one of these trailers safely. This Baron has smooth-riding torsion axles with shock absorbers and because it has mechanically-actuated Inertia brakes, you don’t need a brake controller in the tow vehicle. As you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, the Inertia brakes apply braking force automatically in proportion to the load in the trailer.

The “TC” in “Baron TC” stands for “Tack Compartment.” Specifically, Brenderup’s patented InstaTack tack compartment. During travel, you run with the tack compartment lid down to let light stream in through the large front window. At your destination, swing up the lid and you have a standing-height dressing room in a compact, easy-to-manage trailer. The Baron normally comes with 2 saddle racks, a blanket bar and 2 bridle hooks. This one has the normal equipment plus 2 extra saddle racks.

As we said in the teaser, this one’s equipped with the optional head divider. It’s clear, so the horses can see the full width of the trailer and it’s easily removable if you don’t need it. There are 3 height adjustments on the chest bar. The fast-action butt bars offer 3 height adjustments and as you lower the bar, it also shortens the stall. Another nice touch about Brenderup stall hardware is that it’s quiet; your horses don’t get unsettled by bars clanging. There’s a 5-way opening window at each horse’s head and you can run with the rear storm panel down for added ventilation and natural light.

The original floor was starting to soften when this trailer came in. We had seen a brand of European horse trailers that had been using a High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) floor since 2001 to good effect. We really liked that HDPE doesn’t rot. It’s expensive to ship panels, but we found a supplier near us that could get King StarBoard HDPE panels to us at reasonable cost, so we decided to install a floor of StarBoard panels in the horse area. A Brenderup normally has a big gap over the axles where there are no cross members. We added some cross-members and even put a layer of aluminum under the HDPE panels, so this one actually has a sort of floor over a floor for good measure. A Baron has Solid Phenolic Core (SPC) walls as standard. SPC walls last indefinitely and with this trailer’s galvanized steel frame, this one should have a lot of good years left in it. As we mentioned in the teaser, we had 5 new Extra Load radial tires mounted (that’s right, we even sprung for a brand new [and fairly expensive, we might add]) spare), so even the tires are fresh. It’s passed Maryland state inspection, so it’s ready to go!

Brenderups are highly sought and this Baron TC one is extremely nice. Stop by and check it out!
